WW2 site "junk"?

So her's the deal: I have been collecting stuff I find, shells, ammo holders, buttons etc (only surface finds, MDing is illegal over here)from this WW2 site, a german concrete bunker compound on the beach.
On Sunday I found this "thing", looks like a snap-button or more like a stud (jeans?). Could be recent but when I found it, it was "caked" with a sand-copper oxide matrix like my other finds. I removed this, hence the red colour. It was once brass, there are some spots still shining "golden".
Should I keep this one or "recycle" it?

Has anyone ever seen one like this?

I know that the German Fallschirmjager helmets had similar looking snaps, I'm not sure what other equipment had them.

Thanks for the responses.

I have already checked out all kinds of german helmets, unfortunately no match... yet.
I'll continue the search...

Re: WW2 site "junk"?

I contacted (besides the esteemed members of TN, hahaha) some guys on a site that deal with war relics and someone happened to own a british map-case that has the exact snap-on studs/fasteners.
