I went back to the cellar hole next door to see what I could turn up with the 4x6 DD coil.

After 10 mins and lots of bugs I was ready to walk back.
The area around the cellar hole is quite trashy and signal even with the trash coil are iffy. I try to just look for reoccurring positive signals, even if they jump all over the place.

I got a signal that was jumping around in the mid conductor range and pulling on some rusty sheet metal noticed a NY licence plate from the 40s.

That's a keeper!

About 2 feet away I got a signal that was jumping from the 30s to the 80s.
Must be more then one item there I thought. About 2 inches down an aluminium disk and what I think was a hose part popped out.

I walked back to the house because I had enough of the bugs.
I had the dog tag idea in the back of my head after I saw the USA on the disk.

It sure looks like one too me.

It appears to read:

Any info you can help me dig up on this service member would be appreciated.
It is my hope it can be returned to its owner or their family.

You sure find interesting items. I wonder if you dug up some of the junk, you could then get to the good stuff. I had a place like that and it payed off with some good artifacts. I would not suggest doing that if you are in a yard. It looked like a bombed out area after I got done.

Great finds DJA!

Man! Your pics are A#1 !!!
How do you DO that????

Y'know, I think Burdie might be right.... you might want to do some down and dirty shovel work at that site.
I'll bet it would pay off well for you.

Best

UPDATE: I did get in touch with an Ailport descendant on a genealogy website.
She said she did have a Levi Ailport who was a great uncle on her mothers side.
Unfortunately he had a different middle name. Back to the search I guess.
