Before talking with Vance today, I was already sold on buying the WS5 headphones since I was told you could hear the sounds better by keeping the noise out better. Well Vance is trying to convince me that the WS4 with his adapter (I'm not sure what he meant for sure, I think something aftermarket) his headset sounded better than the WS5 headphones. Has anyone on here bought that setup from Vance MDing or know what he is talking about? Are they better than the factory setup? Thanks

The WS4's control module can be removed for replacement of the headband (basically just the band and the inexpensive ear speakers).

However - with that module, you can power other headphones... for example I use an adapter and use my Grey Ghosts with mine. What Vance is describing is something he is working on that allows you to directly attach the module to a full size set of headphones. The advantage would be you are not tied to the WS5 phones, but can switch back and forth as needed from the WS4s to the ones he is describing or to another set via the adapter. With his setup you don't have a cord, with mine you do. :)

Hope that helps!

Vance's set-up with Detector Pro looks very solid, but I use the adapter like Keith posted. I Vance's set-up otherwise.

OK, First I'm not a deus owner, i did just sell one though with the WS5 phones, and I did at least get to put them on my head, covered complete ear, comfortable not too tight, best "feeling" headphones I ever tried on. I guess that said I don't see the point of getting the WS 4, AND another set of 130.oo dollar headphones to "cobble-up" one pair, and how is 1/4 the price ? when WS5 is about 75.oo more than WS4.

I'm not a deus owner "yet". But I am liking it more all the time.

Also this question is not meant to bash anyone for anything, just a logical question.

In short why not just the WS5 ? which I did fall in love with just from fit, and feel alone ?

In short why not just the WS5 ?

Cause with the WS-4 and the adapter you can use ANY headphones you like! Some guy love their own old school headphones and may want to use them ... in turn the WS-4 puck with adapter gives them that option. Though not "Totally" wireless since there is a cord it's not connected tot he detector making it "Wireless" ... you just put the puck in your pocket etc. (which they made the adapter with some sort of clip though).
Kinda like the CTX3030 ... those are "wireless" ... but yet there is a cord to a control module ... same with Deus as the control module is the WS-4 puck.
And I want to try some quality earbuds myself ... so I'm gonna try the earbud wires from the WS-4 Puck through my shirt out the collar and in the ear and see how I like that ... I think with a nice dull in ear quality earbud you will 99% as much as a full headphone but still be comfortable with nothing on the ears and good for summer.

The WS-5 headphones to not give you all these options ... it's JUST the set of headphones ... and I have read a couple threads that guys actually do not feel the same as you do about fit and comfort of the WS-5 ... But if you Just need the headphones and you like the classic large cupped set of phones then maybe for an extra 100 bucks it may good enough for you.

AND you can still use them with the Chefphones or Vances phones as well ... (and his come with a lifetime warranty) ... ya you pay a little more overall but it's kinda worth the option to have so many options ... anod not just ONE which is the WS-5

And to dial it all back ... the WS-4 Backphones could be a headphone many guys like ... I want a nice light headphone myself and one that is wireless and one where I can wear my hat ... the Backphones if you like the feel of them could easily be Great by themselves and you save $100 (I think your 75 bucks more comes from vendors maybe selling each model cheaper then retail and there may be only a small gap ... though I have been quoted 100-125 bucks more regardless).

Overall I like the versatility that the WS-4 model + adapter brings to the table ..... and that will be the model I am going with when I purchase mine.

Rick,

Falconman has a great description.... Basically with the WS4s you have more flexibility and options, with the WS5s you are locked into that configuration. It's all in what's comfortable to you. :)

Thanks Falconman515 for not bashing me as I was just asking a question. you do make some good points, like some guys like thier "old" headphones, like the gray ghosts to name one.

I don't know about the ear buds man, but again that is just me. Your going back to wires which kind of defeats the purpose of the detector in the first place ?

I admit, as to my personal preference I wouldn't like the back phones, because I like to wear them (any headphone) with one ear on, and one ear off, kind of impossible with that configuration.

Oh and you mentioned "with a hat" that has also become VERY important to me recently with a medical condition...lets just say too much sun.

To you...again as just someone thinking about Deus, and I think you said not tried one yet either...I can't imagine someone not likeing the feel of the WS5. In any case I do appreciate all you said it will help me in my decision.....I am afraid I will be a deus owner sooner rather than later.

THANK YOU

Never ... this is a place to come and learn and ask questions and post their thoughts .... everyone should respect that!

Exactly my friend from california, but it does seem that many are very sensative ? (BIG smiley face) Too much so to come to a "forum"

Serious though I did like what you said....and I also find some people too sensative to be involved in such a forum. THANKS. WOW you are so right, in that it is a place to express "opinions", and of course not everyone will have the same....and that is wher the sheite happens.

Good point FBD. simply more flexibility...pretty hard to argue with that ?? Which I won't...make me look stu..pid.

Thank You as well.

BTW do you also sell the NEL coils , I'm looking for onr for Omega to satisfy an itch, you can PM me anytime OK.

Rick

I find the WS4 module and adapter (from XP) used with earbuds more comfortable than any headphones when the temperature rises above 70 degrees. Maybe I am just a hot head! Earbuds allow you wear any kind of hat in any kind of weather.

I have used cheap $20.00 earbuds and $200 plus ones without any problems with both the Deus and CTX and I have some hearing loss. The only downside is that in very noisy sites they are not as effective in blocking external sounds as the headphones.

Ear buds are sometimes the only way to go in the heat!
