Wrote It Off ~ Now I'm Writing About It

This was from last week--Did not have time to get on and post as I have been busy.
I had a bit of time between late morning and when the kids got out of school, so I thought I would get out a bit instead of
biding my time at home.
I chose a place that in the past I have never found anything worth keeping other than a lone wheat penny at several inches down.
In fact, the place really never seemed to give me that "Vibe" that there would be anything at all there worth swinging for. It does not even look remotely old.
So, I wrote it off. :icon_scratch:
But, being the soil has been BONE-DRYand this area was a bit on the shady side; I thought it would be my best bet that I could at least cut a plug.
I made the decision to go diggin' for a ring. Thinking maybe there was as slight chance one was dropped in all the activities since my last visit; as it does get some
traffic from time to time.
I was there an hour and a half and gridded an area 30x30.
First quarter hit I got at 4", I said to myself, " Why not ? I'll dig a quarter." ....Out pops the '34 Washington. I stared at that in disbelief.
Shook my head, cleared my thoughts, and kept going.
Dug some more pull tabs, etc. Then I get another signal...Iffy at about 7". Cut the plug and could not find it at all; pinpointer was going crazy.
I already had spent considerable time probing, and had a good scoop of dirt out from a 6x6" plug; time to move on.
Detected about 30 more minutes and I circled back thinking "I got to cut that plug again."
I was so meticulous about being neat I could not even find the where I had the hole. :laughing7:
I am like searching everywhere, and then finally the detector sounds off, and this time I cut the plug to the upper left of the last one and I nailed it at about 8". Shiny as it was just dropped.
Cannot tell you the last time I scored TWO silver quarters in one day. I have not even bagged one silver dime yet this year (Go figure???). :icon_scratch:
And, as a final note upon looking at the area I realized I only have detected about 40% of the land in the past when I wrote it off.

Taught me a lesson.

soooo cool a story...all of us who been at this awhile get it.been there.congrats on turning back and following your gut..:occasion14:

I know what you mean , I only got two quarters once - they were the first silver quarters I ever found (1939 and 1943) they were about
two feet apart from each other , and I never found another old coin on that two or three acre lot - not even a wheatie !!

TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE !

I've gone to parks 5 or 6 times and got nothing then you score a silver or Indian Head on the next trip and the park starts to open up to you. My recommendation is go back a few more times

Cool post. Congrats on both silvers. :occasion14: Now you have a little under 60% virgin ground to hunt there. :hello2:

Thanks for the kind praise everyone!

Thanks for the recommendation MackDog --sound advice! I have learned so much from everyone here over the years. And, yes I am going to go back MackDog when the ground gets good and moist (Yep, you know I am :icon_thumleft:!). I KNOW I passed up a 9" deep dime and a few other signals worth investigating all in one area, but wanted to be extra-careful as the ground was iffy in places beyond the shade trees. This area was a very manicured turf, and I wanted to leave no trace of extraction. I figured with 2 keepers I could pass on the dime until conditions were a bit more favorable.

Thanks all! HH & good luck to you!
