Wreck appears down from Fort Morgan, AL

I should have a chance this weekend to go check this out. I am suprised they talk about the Ivanhoe. Most everyone here who knows the location is very closed lip about it.

I will post pictures if I find anything worth reporting.

The resident expert and author on wrecks in this area, Jack Friend, thinks the wreck may be Monticello, a two-masted schooner, was sailing from Havana, Cuba, to Mobile on June 26, 1862, when it was intercepted and burned by the Union gunboat Kanewha.

Maybe some stuffwas dropped in all the action. I hope to find out this weekend.

Wow great stuff! I wish I still lived down there . I grew up 12 miles from the Fort and ran those beaches all over. I remember seeing tembers sticking out of the sand as a child but never thought much of it. That place is like a big time capsule.

Michael, I was hoping to get back to that area ,back to Eglin or maybe Keesler but they got me going to North Dakota. A bit cold and no mullet or red fish.

We went down there today and thetide had nearly covered it back up. I went over it with my Quicksilver and found some bronze parts down deep still attached. We had the entire beach to ourselves untilour activity drew acrowd. It was a fun day for all. We were chased away by high tide. Here are my two helpers, my son on the left and nephew on the right.

Birdman, to cold where you are going. We hit the high 30's last night and had to build a fire but it was nice at the beach. We went down to Fort Bowyer after detecting, the kids had a greatadventure.

I used to play all in Fort Bowyer . Lots of good memories . My GrandFather helped build the big concrete wall that you can walk he ones going around the batteries. He was a small boy at the time working with his dad. My grand father was born down there in 1898 and that wall was built around 1910 or so. My father has a friend that now lives in Elberta that has tons of CW artifacts and also lots and lots of Indian artifacts that he found as a child through to adulthood. There used to be an Indian skull in the fort museum for years but he got it back in the 80s . It is in his personal collection. Pretty amazing stuff.
