Well, I'll get you started. Those are a little confused. They are not sturdy enough for campaigning but did any one really wear a sash buckle. I have seen them with eagles on them mostly. I believe there was even one with an anchor on it. My personal belief is that they are civilian, but, believe me I can be wrong.

There were thousands of two piece buckle manufactures in the 19th century! Unless it is a well known wreath holder they can be hard too ID what tongue went too the wreath! I think this wreath holder is pre cw more into the early 19th c. and dont know if this was military or not.

It is cast brass(stamped brass is what is mis ided as "Sash" buckles, which is a misnomer)I have a stamped version with the exact same pattern (olive leaves)that dates to the later 1850's,and is of British/Engish origin.I will look but there are basically two common types of "leaf", themed wreaths, olive leaves and oak leaves. There is a wide variety of tongues that could have been the match and it is highly unlikely anybody can say for positive what tongue went with your example

well,I cant find a match in ODonnell's book,I will look in Kerksis' when time allows. What sets yours aside from other olive leaf types is the placement of the crossed ribbons....they are usually at 6 and 12 on similar wreaths. As stated,my english stamped wreath has them 9 and 3 like yours

Tend to agree with Pre-CW. The bands are 9 and 3 as Kuger stated. Saw an 1840 federal example that was close but not exact.

Maybe we may try again. Members are getting tired of these arguments over the tongue buckles and reporting them.Member ask for help, help if you can and let your post stand on its own merit. I just was to dig a nice C.S one. A real one.
