Well I did it.... My first silver coins. As I said earlier I got permission to hunt an old farm homestead. It's estimated to be a 1750's old ranch and it's been for sale for a couple of years. I asked the realitor company and it's agent if I could do alittle history hunting and they were very cool about it. I started around 10:00am and finished around 3:00pm I found about 20 clad coins from some Wheaties to some 2000 quarters and pennies. After my first hour I thought I would never find a silver here because everything I was finding was penny's and some quarters. But then I finally I got a strong reading at 78 and down about 5-6 inches. The soil was a clay based but wet muck like dig. I sweep the hole three times before I finaly got to see a big coin. I had no idea what it was but beleive me I was so excited. I grabbed the camera and took a couple of pictures. My first thought was a silver dollar.. because of the size it was. But after cleaning it up I noticed it was a Half Dollar. Columbian Half Dollar??? Dated 1893.!! :icon_king: I couldn't believe it. I was feeling great and was just thinking More More More.. By Noon I had a couple of Wheaties and some more clad. Then finally another big signal. I knew it was at least a quarter or another Half Dollar. Well I got it out and Wow my first Liberty Quarter.... again I grabbed my camera and took a couple of shots. I was so excited I just cleaned it up alittle and noticed no date. because it was pretty worn.. :'( But it's my second silver coin ever and I was very pleased with my F2 now.. I've found silver ring's and silver necklaces but I was worried I'd wouldn't find a silver coin. Well I was wrong. I'm headed back next week to check the storm cellar enterance and back yard area. I found most of my clad and silver near the front yard area. Here are some pictures. Wow what a day. You read them once in a while but living it is sweeter..

very nice!

You sure know how to make an entrance. Those two coins are very hard to find in the turf. You did well, congratulations!

I have been itching to get out since I got this unit. I know it's not the top of the line modle but I heard it's a Coin Hog. and it's proving it. Thanks for your comment's and I'll post my next find's when I get back from the site next week. I might just hit the local parks for the rest of this week. But Thanks again. it was a Day I'm not going to forget. That's for sure.

To have that pair be your first two silver coins is quite a feat! Congratulations on those superb finds!

Sweet first Silver!! Congrats on a great coin!!

congrats on those finds, gonna be hard to top a day like that!

Big time congrats on the first silver(s)...that commemorative half is a coin I would LOVE to find! So unique. Pull some more stuff out of that yard!

I'm going to. I asked the Realitor for some more history on this place so I'll see what they come up with. Rumor has it the owner owned a Bar in town but not sure of the name. I'm hoping for some help on this. I hit the Jackpot it looks Like. It's a 70 mile drive and my Cousin told me about this place so My research is on over drive. When I found the Half Dollar I had no idea if it was a league coin or not. I do not see it in any of my coin books?? I have the Red Book of U.S. Coins and thier is nothing in their on this coin.

I'll keep you all posted on this Homestead. Other then that I'm Glad to share my finds.

Go slow with too much info to others.....it can be put "off limits" as quick as it was put on.
Man, beginning with that half dollar and that quarter....you're going to have to find some really great coins to top those.
Way to go......and keep posting, so we see those other nice coins that are bound to be there........and the gold one to go with the silver half.

Nice find on the Columbian Expo! That is the second one I have seen in the forum in the last 2 weeks!

Nice going!

It is in your Red Book. Look in the back of the book under "Commemoratives". It is the first commemorative coin that the US minted. Sold at the Worlds Fair for $1.00 each.

Sweet digs   great picts of it coming out ; Thanks for sharing

Thanks. I'll look in the back of the book!!!. I wish I had a video of the find. but I was just smart enough to take the camera.

Can't wait to get back thier. It's like a major Itch.
