SCORE! I need to spend time on the east coast...

Grats to ya and hh all.

To determine the denomination, an 8 reales coin is about 27 grams; with proportionate divisions for the 4, 2, 1 and 1/2 reales.
Another way: an 8 reales will be 40mm in diameter; the 4--34mm; the 2--28mm;--the 1--20mm and the 1/2--18mm.
Don......

looks like a carollus 1797. search "spanish Reales" a web site I used gives pics of all Reales and you have enough details to get all you need. my 1/2 Reale is 5/8", the 1R will be a bit larger. my 1R was a 1781 Carollus that sold for $20. great find

If it's 1797 (what it looks like to me) then it's Carlos IV, (minted 1788-1808), nice find for sure , but not worth that much. Congrats on the find though!

Its a good find:occasion14: Am still searching for any of that old Spanish silver, maybe if luck is on my side, I find one someday here !

Wow, thanks for posting this! It reminded me that my Half Reale was soaking in some toothpaste in a cup, which had gotten thrown away! I'm lucky I got it before trash went out!

Very nice find. Spanish silver is high on my list! Very well done.

One on my list for sure .... nice find

Spanish coins used during the colonial days are something else!!! Way COOL!!!!!:occasion14:

Sweet coin... Doubt if I'll ever dig one of those in Ohio...:dontknow:
