WOW A ROUND HORSESHOE!! BEFORE AND AFTER CLEANING.

HOWDY ALL. Got this very different find just before the new year. My buddy Mad Dog T cleaned it up and here it is. A round horseshoe!! Any info is appreciated as I cannot find much on the net. Keep Swinging!!

What I think it is, is an orthotic shoe, to protect the hoof...,
but those are usually in a bent D-shaped shoe....
Perhaps it hadn't been altered by the farrier (blacksmith) yet....?

I'm certainly interested is what kind of "horseshoe" this is... (if it is one). I'm not at all saying it's NOT... but it is weird and I'll give ya that. Hell I thought I've dug all known types but your the winner buddy!

It has all the markings as all the others I have found. I found 3 other normal ones in the same vicinity. Keep Swinging!!

What markings are they? I'm not trying to be turd here, it's just that after digging hundreds of shoes, of all sizes and lots of correction shoes this is the first time I've seen a round shoe with no nail holes for attaching the shoe to the hoof, so that makes me inquisitive.

There needs to be nail holes in a shoe for it to be affixed to a hoof...

Pepperj is absolutely correct and I support his comments.

Super glue is a recent innovation and to my knowledge hasn't been attempted.

I have been around draft, race and trail horses my entire life, and as yet, have never observed a fully round shoe. That's not saying there isn't one but I have my doubts.

If a corrective shoe is placed on a front hoof, it would not have an extended tang...because of walking patterns, the hind hoof would clip the forefront shoe and it would be off in minutes.

Being an optimist, finding other shoes in the immediate vicinity of the round object, doesn't mean there will be a pony buried in the next hole...

There are 4 holes on each side. Same as many. They didn't show up because of the shoe was laying flat. The holes are in the grooves on either side. I will post a better picture when I get to a computer.

Not sure that medeval shoes are to be found in the mid-Ohio region.

The second picture is more oval than round and most likely would not be placed on a front hoof as explained earlier. Most likely placed on a rear hoof.

I hope this picture answers the questions of the holes. I realize this is an odd find, I guess this is why I was asking for information. But it is made exactly like so many of the other horseshoes I have found, more than 100. Keep Swinging!!

I believe this shoe was worn on a horse employed by the early version of The Circle Line company now involved in bilking tourists in Manhattan.
