Where is "THIS" area. It could make a big difference.
No idea about the geology of the area, so can't venture a guess. I just stick to my front lawn.....not a joke. There is a vein in the rocks somewhere close by and we're getting coarse gold out of it. Too bad the nuggets aren't the size of hens' eggs, though.

The picture in question? It is in the Sangre de Cristo mountains--Colorado specifically. My other area well I won't talk about that.

My question is "Would I look for gold in this area?".......Only if the drainage below that ridge had suddenly stopped yielding gold while following and sampling up it. After gold stops occurring in a drainage is the time to stop sampling in the drainage and to branch out and sample or follow "float"* up hill on both sides to possibly find the original source vein if it still exists. Geologists as well as old time and current prospectors use(d) this proven method.

Best geologic opinion based on a pic of what appears to be a granitic rock formation. Granite is an intrusive formed igneous rock that appears on the surface due to up thrust orogeny. Deep seated intrusive rock formations are where other valuable minerals occur. That said: there is a possibility that ore bodies could be found within this formation. One would have to identify other mineralization within the scope of the granitic area.
So far the opinion that it requires looking and prospecting hits the nail on the head!
