Hi, I dug this yesteday. It's made of Pewter with a Silver Plate and stars. 1 5/8 inches in diameter. Also what would the age be ?
Thank You,
Bob

added the pic of back. Looked to me like it may have been leaded at one time but it's gone. in the past I had found a leaded piece from a Rosette
with the rusted steel attach points, not from this one, differnt site. So i didn't know ???

Thanks

Can we see the back? I am thinking maybe a piece of furniture adornment. But it maybe a rosette. Will need to see the back for a better guess though.

Very Nice :icon_thumleft: I've dug one very similar to yours at an 1815 church where they
tied the horses. I'd say it's definitely a horse rosette. Here's the front and reverse on mine.
I believe the back is lead filled ? I cant give you a time range though :dontknow:

Luck was on your side finding a whole one like that congrats !!

If it was a rossete it would have evidence of a means for attachement on the back.
I found a near exact match(nothing on the back and mine was as big as the palm of your hand, too big for a rossette)in a strictly 1850 site

As far as evidence of attachments on mine. After the horses they used cars - at the same
spot. I found quite a few there some with attachments others missing them due to the cars
driving over them and length of time in the ground.
Now that i see the back of bedfordbobs - the backs are different. Other than the church
there is a cemetary across the street too.
Could they have been used in a cemetary:dontknow:
Note : mine is 1 5/8 inch wide too

Mike,no matter if yours was run over by a tank, there would be evidence of a bar or iron wires.....or where they were ie. rust which I can not see in yours. As for what they were,I dont know........would love to know!!!

nice find kuger :icon_thumleft: i now know my find and Bedfordbob's aren't
the same on the back now that i saw his. I did find a few of those at that church.
Also rosettes with the attachments and wondered what those few were ?
His front is very similar to mine and same width but different backs :dontknow:

Thanks you all for posting these for us to see. Some rosettes were really horse bit decorations, and were applied rather than having a loop or attachment like those that slid over a bridle strap. Some stirrups also had applied decorations. I wonder if the bullyseye could be one of those decorations?

i found some of the older types (to take a front and back shots of) i have recovered these at colonial and early 1800's sites , some have the wire mount or holes where they would go and some don't but all are rosettes as i'm sure yours is to.
