I found this button last year along with ahat I thought at the time was some kind of I.D. tag that went on telephone poles. I was later told the tag was a bridal rosette. Just thought I'd get the experts opinions. Help me out guys. The button says on the back (the best I can make out)  HORSTMAN PHILADEPHIA.

Button not CW.
Bit Boss...possibility. They typically are CW period, but could run pre to post CW. Where is Mason County? Was there any action/movement there?

Mason County is right along the Ohio River, about mid state far west. I have heard tales of Union camps at various places guarding the railroad coming from Ohio. I don't know how true that is. Mason County was the site of Lord Dunmores War. The Battle of Point Pleasant, but that was well before the Civil War.
There is a cliff that overlooks downtown Point Pleasant that a man told me he found 1/2 moon embankments. He said he also found 2 Navy revolvers, 36 cal. and a few cannon balls. He said they were from a Union camp.

The button in the first pic is standard military 1903- present. Can't say about the bit boss. Were there any WW1 or 2 bases or camps along the river?

Is that Mason County KY? It's unclear to where along the Ohio River you mean.

I"m going to say yes on the bit boss, war time standard's for the Calvary but no to the button.1903-Present as stated.Nice piece's.....Congrat's!!

This is Mason Co. West Virginia. I know of no WWI or WWII bases along the river where the button was found. There was an ammunitions manufacturing plant for WWII about 30 miles north of where the button was found. It is called the T.N.T. Area. You might have heard of it as being home of the Mothman.

Cool finds,

hh

Bit boss is CW period. Button, as mentioned is the "Great Seal button" Circa 1902-WWII. Many men prior to leaving for the eastern or western front in WWII trained all over America. We have many maneuver areas in TN., as does many other States. Nice finds, David@Dixie
