This platinum shank is from the bottom of my mother's wedding ring. After about 45 years it got thin, so she had a thicker piece put on and she kept the shank. It was about 1995 and the jeweler told her the shank was worth about $75. I decided to sell it but the jeweler's calculation was WAY different from mine. But I'm not a rocket scientist so maybe someone will re-calculate for me?

According to my scale, it weighs 18 grains or .045 ounce.
At say $1639 per ounce, what does the value come to?

Jeweler offered me nine bucks. She said it weighs .7 grams.

Confused,

Here is a metal calculator you can use to get the approx worth of your precious metals..

http://dendritics.com/scales/metal-calc.asp

18 grains is 0.038 of an oz..... If it is pure the approx value is $61.00.....Most jewelers are not going to give you the full value of it....The refineries will take a bigger percentage for plat than they do for gold when it is melted down....... It is certainly worth more than $9.00 if it is pure platinum...
