Hi everyone,

Haven't posted here in some time. I'm thinking of upgrading as the title says. When I got the Ace, I had a feeling I would out grow it fairly quickly, but I was just getting back into the hobby and it seemed like the right choice at the time.

I live in So. Cal, Pasadena area so I would guess that means high mineral soil? I would like a good all around machine for coin/jewelery in parks as well as some beach hunting. I would guess that with any "all around" machine that I would have to stay out of the wet sand and surf.

I'm wanting something fairly lightweight. Looking at the X-Terra 70. A little bit more than my budget but not too bad. I would like a display, but my first detector was a White's DL4900, so I began detecting without a display and would be ok without one.

I hope this is enough info to get a few good words of advice.

Thanks,
Stacey

I saw an Exterra (oops I posted 50) 70 advertised here on the forum for $450 I think. That would be a GOOD deal!

I have had the ace 250 and several others too. I enjoyed the ace and found some nice keepers with it too. I still consider it somewhat of a beginners machine also. I now use an xterra 50. It is a very good machine. You can even get a new one and it would still be within your budget. I tell you it is probably the most advance machine I have owned aside from an eagle spectrum, but alot more simplier to operate. If you were going to do any prospecting go for the xterra 70. I do not plan on doing the prospecting thing so I went for the 50. It weighs proabably 1 lb more than the ace and runs on 4 AA batteries also. Has alot more choices for optional coils too. You will not go wrong choosing an xterra 50 or 70. You will get alot more out of your minelab with depth and you will dig less iron too. I highly reccomend it. Just my opinion, Tim

You may have already talked to him but this is a GREAT deal. I do not know the person selling it and I have NO interest in the sale just so you know. I'm just letting you know that I just saw this sale and would have jumped all over it had I had the $$$$$$!!!!

When I moved on from my ace I wanted to try a non TID machine. That choice was a Tesoro Vaquero, been hunting with it about 3 months now, so far I"m very impressed, I use it for coin shooting, beach hunting(including wet sand) and hunting old relics. Its light weight is a big plus, I've had some 6-8 hr hunts with it, no problem.

I'd go with the Vaquero also, I also started off with the ACE 250, have a Cibola now It's awesome Tesoro disc is outstanding , but I am going to upgrade to the Vaquero for the GB.

Yep looks like it may be the Vaquero. I do want to be able to hunt beaches with it.

Still wondering about the X-70, but it seems for versatility, the Vaquero is the way to go.

Well of course the 70 is just as or more versatile with great depth also. It will do whatever the Vaquero will and a lot more. But of course it costs $250 more new.
