This green drab shell casing has no marks on it. It measures 5-3/8" long, Back rim is 1-1/2" O.D. and the neck is 1" I.D. These measurment are spot on. The primer has been set in tight with 4 punch points. It is not made of brass, but a light color heavy metal. I would say its a modern casing and not much older then 10-15 years. Found it in a thrift store that I also found a 100+ year old Howitzer casing in and a WWII Irish Vickers made army helmet. I believe bit by bit someones military collection is being feed in to these thrift stores? I pick em up as I see them come in. I asked the fellas working there if they noticed any other stuff and they said there was many helmets and they do remember a very large shell casing that came and went. He said it stood maybe 2 ft tall and looked like 3.5 to 4.0 inches in diameter. Shucks I missed that stuff, but I got at least 3 items. More stuff may show up as all the thrift store items come in from a main distribution point in Denver before it is sent out to the other stores of that thift store chain. I'll keep checking.

I'm not military, just a fan of the A-10, and I thought the 30mm GAU-8 was electricaly primed. That one has a mechanical primer that's been smacked. It may be a 30mm but it's not for the Vulcan.

The casing's owner said the interior diameter of the casing's neck is "spot on" 1-inch. One inch equals 25.4 millimeters, so I have to go with it being a 25mm-projectile casing (as Recondigger said), not a 30mm.

Please pardon my fetish about the crucial importance of precise measuring for arriving at correct identification... but this is another example of its importance.

Recondigger, thank you for your service to the people of this nation.

Thanks also for the very cool photo of the sawed-in-half projectiles. :)

Now be a good guy and tell us what each one of those five different bullets are designed for. :dontknow: Gone are the days of simple ball ammunition, tracers and AP.

Thanks for the info. The navy I was in doesn't exist any more than John Paul Jones navy does. That's all totally new stuff to me.

Well thank you all fella's. Believe you got an ID in this casing recondigger. Buy the way, thanks for variation list of the 25mm Bushmaster shells. Have you any access to unit pricing the government pays for each of these rounds? I sure like the looks of 2,3 & 4. Looks like I'd have some fun shooting with each of those. This shell casing alone has a weight of 8oz. I can maybe guess each round would weigh around a pound each. With that how many rounds did you pack in a Bradley? Sounds like some huffing and puffing to get that vehical ready to go?

I have no clue what they cost but I'm sure the GOV pays to much! The basic load is 1,500 rounds for the 25 and its a giant pain in the butt. The boxes are heavy and you have to link the belts together by hand before you load the belts in the ready box.

Well thank you recon! One other thing that I noticed after you sent the images, is that creased ring just behind the neck down area doesn't look as deep on the spent shell. I'm thinking its blown out? That also would expand the length of the shell I would think after it was fired?. Is that by design? Did it some how work with the ejection action with the shell expansion? Or is that just what takes place on a spent round?. Also the projectile crimp it very deep on the neck of the image of an unfired round.

I also thank you for your sevice!

Best Regards,
Tamrock
