I would like to get a new MD. I had a ACE 250, but it never worked that great in my area. I live in Orange County, VA (Central Virginia). I have the Wilderness Battlefield right down the road from me, plus my land & the surrounding area had alot of Civil War activity. The Orange County area has ALOT of red/orange clay, which made it hard for the ACE 250 to work prooperly.

Which MD would be the best for my area, taking in account for the red/orange clay. My brother has found alot of bullets & a horse bridle with a Whites & my uncle found an non-discharged artillery shell, also with a Whites.

Thanks for any information.

Sounds to me like your next machine MUST have a ground balance that you can adjust. It is important that your next machine is capable of it. I have used many brands and they all have nice machines. I use my Xterra 70 the most. It has all that you would want to adjust yet it is simple to use. Also the more advanced you get wiith it, you would find that the prospecting mode is a sweet tool for coin and treasure hunting. Plus its not going to cost you $1500. But you will get lots of advice here. I would stick with a major brand. Minelab, Tesoro, Fisher, Garrett, Whites.

Good luck.

I have to agree, the X-terra 70 is what I use, it was very easy to learn & I'm impressed with it's accuracy!

I would highly recommend the MXT from White's. It has what you need and will detect deep. It has three modes: coin and jewelry, Relic hunting, and prospecting. It has an easy learning curve and in 10 seconds, you will be detecting not playing with buttons and dials. You will not be dissapointed.

If your not going to do any prospecting and save a little dough then just go with the xterra 50. It is hot on brass and lead and is great for coin shooting too!! It also has a manual ground balance too. I had an ace 250 one time and I found alot of nice keepers with it. Although I think it is still a nice machine............I am definately doing better with this xterra 50 I have by far. I have taken it over places I have detected previously with other units including tesoros, whites, fishers and garretts....and have found some real nice keepers with the xterra. I would highly reccomend it to anyone. Just my opinion.

If you are not going to do much prospecting, Take a close look at the Whites M6. Same engine and power as the MXT, but $100 less expensive. At 15 KHZ it will still find small gold nuggets.
