Ok thank you! I wasn't sure where to go with my question. My name is Jessica, 42 years old, Born and raised in Virginia, moved to West Virginia in 2017. I love collecting antiques, and anything else I think is cool. I had to start over on my collections, because I lost most of them over the years, for different reasons. I currently have a small collection of old spoons, a small 3 prong fork, as well as some sort of small bowl with one handle, which I believe to be silver. I collect old oil lanterns and pocket knives too. And just recently acquired an old ashtray/bottle opener with a drunk man leaning against a lamp post from the 1940s I believe, which I think is pretty cool. I just cleaned it up last night, and found it to be very colorful. It started out black and rusty, but cleaned up real well. I have tried to find info on some of my other spoons and things in recent months, but couldn't come up with anything on a few. Thank y'all for having me, I look forward to hearing your opinions and gaining knowledge, and also look forward to seeing what everyone else has. Thanks again.I moved ya from NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS over to WHAT IS IT? for more exposure.

No it's not pewter. Definitely copper.. I'm not sure about the silver plating. I couldn't get any good pictures of it because my phone was about dead and couldn't use my flash. I soaked it in white vinegar and salt for a while, which made it turn like a pinkish color. And after scrubbing on it for a while, it ended up being oranges with a slightly pink tint, and in a few small places I can see like a greenish color. There's also a few spots that i didn't clean good that looks kind of a reddish brown color (on the bowl part) It needs to be cleaned some more, but not sure the best way to go about doing it without somehow ruining it. I looked at it with a magnifying glass, and didn't see any distinguishing marks, lines, letters, stamps, or anything. But it still has like a crust on it, so upon further cleaning, could maybe reveal something..IMO... it was possibly silver plated copper... it is indeed older.
Any chance it is made of pewter ?
It has the look of pewter to me... but this could just be the picture.
Thank you. I'm hoping someone can help me out, maybe give me an idea of when and/or where it was made. All of my other spoons and things are either silver or silver plated, so was excited to see the copper. It’s a nice old spoon. I don’t see any marks or pattern or anything to narrow it down. Hopefully someone can tell by the shape. It does look old, but I don’t know how old.

It is extremely soft and bends very easily, so I'm fairly certain it's made of copper. Plus the color looks copper, which you can't tell in the pictures unfortunately.Copper is one of the metals that is easy to plate with silver. Others are not so easy. It could also be made of a base metal, then copper plated before it was silver plated.
Try getting a photo in natural light on a plain back ground, the natural light should give a truer color and the plain back ground will allow you to only focus on the spoon and not the patterns of the back ground.I tried to get a better picture, but will have to wait til later when I have better light and camera.
