I would appreciate any views on this coin which has a very dark pewter look to it. It belongs to a friend of mine who tells me his Dad found it many years ago when working on some roadworks in London. It presents as what I think is an Edward 1st penny. It is about the right size and weight but I am not convinced and think it may be a contemporary forgery. I would love to hear any opinions on it.
Thanks
Frank

English Jetton, base metal, similar to the second example here

The small round punch mark on the cross in your example is common with these.

Thank you Jamie. I think you have nailed it. Any idea on age or value?

Contemporary with edward I to III. As for value I don't know. I thought they were quite sought after compared to the later continental types but a quick look on ebay suggests they don't fetch a high price just a few pounds.
