got out for a bit with Gary(foundationhunter) that's him in the pic. found 2 sites.one had a cool root or wine cellar built into a hillside next to cellar hole.maybe it was a tomb :o who knows :dontknow:
I found 2 buttons and a blank large copper.slightly bent and worn beyond recognition
Gary dug a braided hair large cent 1848 i think and another war of 1812 Excelsior button.this is like the 3rd one he's pulled on a hunt together and i'm still hopin for my 1st
any ideas what the copper may be based on the grams? same diameter as a draped bust large cent but alot thinner but no clue what it coulda been :icon_scratch: a colonial state copper perhaps? :dontknow:

nice finds! cellar holes are great my friend and i hunted one for over 3 years we keep going to all different ones here and there always find something looks like you have one that still produces good luck and keep digging krazyhorses

Root cellar place to the best ! So is the smiley coin :laughing7: Great Autumn hunts to you :headbang:

It is only worthless if you go to sell it. Based on the size and weight it could be anything. :D

That is one cool root cellar!

just hate when they come out like this.it bugs me to wonder what it once was :icon_scratch:
yeah i never seen a root cellar such as this before..was a pleasent suprise to walk up onto this.if i was homeless this is where i'd be

well great hunt there for sure and great pictures
the copper is lost unless you try some cleaning on it because you have nothing too lose in the state it's in now ;D,fine grit paper will give you possible leads too the ID...believe me it works on smooth coppers ;D
Thats a sweet root cellar and I have seen many but none like that, they put some work into it so Im sure it was built for a multi purpose root cellar/shelter
Great post

I have been told that letting that copper sit in olive or vegitable oil(nothing petrolium based)will bring out al the high points ot the coin. I have had my kg2 soaking in veg oil and it works the longer it sits the better it gets. I guess the coin is so dry for being in the dirt so long. Anyway maybe someone else will chime in .

thanks for the tip but i've never had any luck using olive oil.this copper is beyond recognition.i used a scotch brite pad on it and nothing :dontknow:

I have been in a few older root cellars, but nothing near that cool. I wouldn't really even care if I found something in there, just to know I could visit that place and relax. Thanks for the pictures.

Those are some really great looking finds guys! :notworthy: Correct me if I'm wrong, but this place looks like it could have been some type of a storage area for gunpowder or maybe munitions? :icon_scratch: It looks really old, possibly mid to late 18th century! :o
