With a short warm up in the weather I went to a old field near by that I found old coins in the past. Got dark fast but last minute I got a good hit. Managed to pull out what I think is a George iii half penny. Very worn but some of the others I pulled out from there before where so gone they were just flat discs. Thanks for looking! :)

Hot peroxide that baby up and find a date

Great find bud. Man you've got some harsh soil there. It's really hit or miss here but my last 5 coppers are TRASHED

Nice find, hope you can clean it up!

Thanks. I've found some in the area that were decent but this field is killer. It's right on the ocean so I don't know if that's a factor. I found Victoria large cents and buttons closer to the house down there that were in amazing shape. I think there is a amazing find down there somewhere to be found. It's like going back in time. The house is at least early 1800's and is unchanged since. A old man owns the property and keeps it well maintained. Got a nice sixpence there awhile ago too! :)

Unlike suggested above, I wouldn't put that coin anywhere near peroxide. That one looks pretty fragile. Funny how some fields can keep giving up good finds for quite a while. Keep hunting it until there's nothing left to dig.

hey they look great to me (a guy who has nearly no hope of finding one in the first place). I look at it as a toasted coin is better than nothing at all... kind of like a person hoping to find CV relics in a non CV area. I would try to clean only after asking for sound advice from those that handle them regularly. at the least I would put them in plastic to keep

I agree, the copper is either in great shape or toasted. But one of those days you may score and find a beautiful copper. Finding a copper is one thing, find a great one is another. Hopefully next time you can find one with a date. Still, Wonderful find, I have found a couple George II coppers, a George I copper, but not a George III, I hope to cross it off my list this year.

Coinman123,

Consider yourself lucky any time you find a coin that was minted before the start of the Revolutionary War. Regardless of condition, that's an amazing part of history you're holding in your hands.
