WORLD’S SMALLEST COIN !!

Yeah, that’s what I thought I had found today. Although my detector was singing out loudly that there was something there, I like to never found it it was so small. Even with my trusty Bullseye pinpointer it was next to invisible amongst the woodchips. Had it not glinted ever so slightly in the bright sunshine I would still have missed it! GOLD MAYBE? Nahh... not even I coin really, I think it was a charm from a bracelet or something and the little eyelet broke or something.
Hello again everyone, I’m still on vacation, and still have loads of free time, so I got out to play a little more today again. That’s three days this week I’ve been able to go detecting. It was considerably warmer today though, as I didn’t get out till late in the afternoon, and the humidity is up again as well. UGH! STICKY AND MUGGY... I only hunted one schoolyard playground today because of it. What can I say, I’m an air condition junky on days like this. If I’d have gotten out earlier in the day I might have hit more than one tot lot, but alas, only one today. Not that it was a bad thing though, still managed to pull in a variety of goodies and a fair amount of clad. I found a 1938 Wheaty for one, probably some kid brought for show and tell and then lost it. Bummer. My gain though. <smile> Here it is with that world’s smallest coin I like to never found... but did.

Speaking of small finds... I had another nearly impossible to locate target just a few minutes later. I thought perhaps it was going to be another one of those tiny coin/charms, but it turned out to be a stylized rivet. A STAR! Still just a rivet from some kid’s jeans though I think. Aggravating to have a loud definite target and not be able to readily see it to retrieve it. Just have to keep looking and use a LOT of patience.

And, like yesterday, I had a surprise appearance of another Presidential Dollar Coin... This one is James K. Polk. Our 11th President. Wow! And on the fourth of July no less! COOL!

Pres.JPG

Yeah, even though it was Hot and Muggy and I was sweating like a W... well we won’t go there. Let’s just say I was sweating profusely... but I was having fun. So when I dug up this next little fella holding his banner up high telling me to “Join the Fun”, I was already there man!

Rabbit Comp.jpg

I don’t know if that little rabbit was supposed to be a school mascot or a game piece or what the heck... looks like cast metal, maybe Pewter? Note the date on his butt. ’06- ’07. For the school year maybe? I don’t know, probably never will find out, but it was an interesting find. So was the Airplane engine that I found next. Okay, so it’s not an engine, that was my first thought when I saw it, looks like a miniature representation of a Wright Patt Cyclone engine like many used in aircraft during World War Two. It’s not an engine at all of course, it’s a Cylinder from a toy cap gun. <grin>

Cap Cylinder.JPG

Something a little more familiar to schoolyard playgrounds, is the occasional key or sometimes even a lock. I’ve never found PART of a lock before though. I did today. One of the tumbler “combination” rings from a combination lock. Took some cleaning to finally identify it, but that’s what it is.

Combo Lock comp.jpg

Like finding pull tabs most anywhere you go, when you hunt tot lots and playgrounds you’re going to find zipper pulls and buttons and snaps. Today was no exception. Even found to large SOLID Metal buttons that look as if they may be gilded (spelling?).

Buttons1.JPG

Buttons2.JPG

... and then there was the bling. Yes, I found another couple of rings. Well, one ring and one pendant I think. Both junk of course, but still neat finds.

Bling comp.jpg

Like I said earlier, I only managed to hunt one tot lot today seeing as I started out so late in the day. That and I’m a whimp from enjoying the nice cool air conditioned “man cave” that is my basement family room. <smile> So my clad totals weren’t nearly as impressive as my last couple of posts, but still, since the schoolyard I hunted is literally just down the street and barely a block and a half away from my home, I spent next to nothing in gas!

Clad.JPG

I think I got my expenses covered with that $6+ what do you think? <grin> Oh, and before I end this post, I thought I might add in a picture of this cell phone I found while driving yesterday. Call it metal detector reflexes or habit, whatever, anyway I saw this object nearly laying on the stripe in the middle of the road near an intersection. At first I drove right past it before it registered in my conscious mind that “HEY! THERE WAS SOMETHING LAYING THERE IN THE ROAD!” So, I turned around down the street and came back, got out and retrieved it. It was this phone. I’m thinking someone either had it laying on the dash of their car and lost it as it slid off and right out the window as they turned at the intersection. Or perhaps they had it sitting on the top of the hood or the roof maybe and forgot it was there.. till it was gone. In any case, no matter how it came to be there, I found it and picked it up. I had to wait till I was parked (at the grocery store) before I could see if it still worked. Well it does... and it doesn’t. The trip to the road apparently damaged it more than just a few scratches. I could turn the phone on and off, but the screen doesn’t work. So much for looking for a number with which to contact the former owner of the phone. It doesn’t have a “SIM” card like my phone does, and it’s with a different carrier than my service. Guess I’ll just toss it in the recycling bin for old phones and electronics. Still, I tried.

Cell.JPG

Do good intentions count towards good Karma? I wonder. Oh well. If Nobody’s said it to you yet this weekend... HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY... HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!! And if you get some time or inclination to get out and play... as always...

That strange, I found the same thing this morning myself. I thought that it was a pendant or something. My isn't as clean as your, I couldn't get a good closeup with my (cheapo) camera. I even put my camera in macro mode (flower symbol) but still if I get to close the picture is still blurring. Happy 4th. to you!!!

Dude! I think it does look like the same coin... only I believe your's is considerably larger. Check out the pic of mine again with the wheat penny as reference to scale. Aside from scale however, it does look to be the same. <shrug> Must be a popular item somewhere. Thanks for sharing!

You have to post your pics here first: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/board,303.0.html

Then you can link those pics to your other post one by one using the "insert image" button(the camera button above the smiley face icons), and copying the link between the tags.

Hope that helps! :P

I used to try to type everything in in the resident message editor here on the site (TNet), using the little icon buttons like the cameras and what not you see before you. I would plug in the attachment (photo name) and that was that. Well as you can tell, I tend to get a little long winded sometimes and my stories get longer and longer. Unfortunately this resident editor is a little dodgy when you try to make longer posts... like me. I was informed and instructed and directed by several helpful members to write my posts -offine- with another editor like, well I use WORD for Microsoft Windows Office, then all you have to do is "Cut and Paste" the story into this resident editor. I put "bullet points" in my original text file then after I paste it here, I go back and edit in the attachments. I delete my bullet points, then insert the attachement (always comes up as 'attach=1' inside of brackets "[" "]" If you are sharing more than one photo, just hit the button, then edit the number from "1" for each photo file. Photo number two would be, obviosly 2... number 3 would be, well, 3... and so on. Of course you have to then go to the bottom of the screen and click on the Browse button to add images. Be sure to read the note under the button though, you can only add 12 pic files per post and they are of limited size. Again, I cut crop and reduce my images offline and store them in a readily accessable file on my desktop to ease the uploading process. .... Does that sound complicated yet?... <grin> Don't worry, you will get the hang of it, it's really not that hard to do, I mean Hey! If I can learn to do it, ANYONE can! <smile>
Look forward to seeing your posts my friend. Good luck with the electronic WhoDoIsm, and as always...

Thanks for taking us along on another one of your adventures. Gotta love those tot lots. Great fun to be had if they aren't picked clean when you get there. No matter what that tiny coin started it's life as, it is testament to your detecting skill that you found that!. What a super cool little find that was! I would be stoked to find one of those.

Thanks for sharing your hunt. I always enjoy reading of your exploits.

Ah ... a pink zipper pull. Classy and chic!

Personally, I like the 1938 wheatie: Very nice photos and great for giving detail and scale.

Thanks. I have a co-worker who used to work as a photographer, among other things, for the Army in a previous "work life". Retired from the Army years ago, he got hired in at the same time as I did at the plant. Anyway, it was a suggestion by him to include some familiar object in any photos of objects I find. It made sense, and I've been doing it ever since. <shrug> I might have thought of it myself eventually, but every little bit of help is appreciated I always say. <grin>

i know what you mean by the heat and humidity,
I was out for an hour and sweated gallons upon
of gallons of sweat and the ground was so solid !!

That's alright, there's rain on the way. How much? I don't know, but it'll soften up the soil a little bit. Of course that'll raise the humidity a bit as well, and with more heat in the forcast as well, well, it's going to be just like SUMMER TIME! Dog days come early, or wait, is that come the second time this year? WHEW! Gonna be fun going back to work at the plant later this week. EWWWWW.. Oh well, gotta pay the bills.

I didn't know anyone had a problem with them. Maybe I am or was oblivious to a situation here. I know I wasn't offended or insulted by anything. Finding Zipper pulls in tot lots and playgrounds is like finding pull tabs anywhere else, "EXPECTED". Those, and those little metal barrels that connect the erasures to the tops of the penciles. Agravating but part of the territory after all. <shrug> If you get right down to it though, the wide variety and stiles and shapes of the pulls can be both entertaining and puzzling at times. I guess the same could be said for pull tabs for that matter. Hmmm.. Never thought of it that way before. <smile> See! I can still learn a thing or two now and then ! <laughing> Anyway, not to worry, I'm not now nor have I yet to be insulted by any refference to Zipper Pulls in mine or anyone elses' posts here on TNet. Thanks for being concerned though, some people wouldn't give a hoot what they said about anything or who's feelings might have been rubbed the wrong way by their comments. Sad really, but that's life. It takes all kinds to make the world go'round but only one or two to become "speed bumps" on the road of life. Gee... that's almost philosophical isn't it? <grin>

I've read here and been told time and time again, that often it's not so much the equipment being used, as how well the person using it knows said equipment that makes them a good detector (machine or person). Well I'm no so cocky as to say that I'm an expert in anything, yet. Besides, you know what an "expert" is don't you ? It's just a DRIP under PRESSURE! <laughing> No, I'm humble enough to admit that I still have a lot to learn before I can consider myself a master of my machine or this hobby in general. I will admit that a personality quirk of mine, being oh so stubborn at times, does lend itself quite nicely to the hobby however. Finding those small tiny little targets in the dirt or sand or woodchips has been and is nearly impossible at times. But my being stubborn enough to not simply give up, and having faith in my machines (White's Prizm IV detector and White's Bullseye pin pointer) when they tell me there is something there even if I don't see it... well I often find those little bitty targets. I'm not saying that it's not frustrating. It *IS* to be sure! But at the same time, it's satisfying when I actually do finally spot and retrieve those little targets. Now... If I can start finding those deep, OLD targets (coins and etc.) I'll start thinking that I might have some "skills" after all. <grin> Thanks!

Now Dave!

When your finding those small trinkets like that, your doing something right!

I just smile when everyone simply assumes that I'm good at the hobby or that I've got more skills than I really do. No, <chuckle> I'm just hard headed and stuborn as a mule sometimes. I have a lot of faith in my equipment, it's rarely told me there was something there when there really wasn't. It's just a matter of me SEEING it and digging in the right spot of deep enough. Yeah, my detector can and is spoofed from time to time. It might tell me there's a quarter (range) target one to two inches down and it turns out to be an OLDER heavy beer can or soda can crushed flat at about 4 inches or so. I'm sure there are reasons and explanations as to why the signals were misinterpreted, but my machine wasn't giving me false signals. No, finding those little bitty bits and pieces has more to do with my stuborness and my enthusiasm than to skill. Though I'm sure I'm more skilled NOW than I was when I first began this hobby. <blushing> Thanks anyway my friend. <grin>
