An anchor from a treasure-laden 17th-century shipwreck has been found off the coast of the U.K.SWNS reports that the anchor, believed to be from the Merchant Royal, was brought up in a fishing vessel’s net 20 miles off Land's End, Cornwall. The merchant ship sank in 1641 carrying an estimated $1.5 billion of treasure.

The Merchant has Royal has been called the richest shipwreck in the world but experts agree that the San Jose lost off Cartagena, Colombia is worth more than $5 Billion.

Dubbed “the El Dorado of the seas,” the Merchant Royal was carrying 100,000 pounds of gold and 400 bars of Mexican silver, as well as almost 500,000 pieces of eight (Spanish dollars) and other coins when she sank.

I hate to sound pessimistic, but recovering a large admirably type anchor and positively connecting it to the Merchant Royal is a pretty major leap of faith.

As they say...Show me the Money!

I seem to remember that the Merchant Royal sank slowly, and the cargo was transferred to the other ship in the convoy, the Dover Merchant?

Funny, when you Google Merchant Royal, the value grows over time from $250 million, $500 million to now over $1.5 Billion.

I agree Xaos. It's all a scam to get a permit to salvage.

300 ft and lots of current. That's hairy.

Yeah... Read an article where they kept warning treasure hunters about diving it.

***ARC hears in his head the song play... "we all live in a yellow submarine... yellow submarine... yellow submarine" ***

Time will tell. If it is there, this is not the last we will hear of it
