Berlin Police Conduct Raids, Arrest 4 over Theft of World’s Biggest Gold Coin BERLIN – Police in the German capital arrested four suspects on Wednesday and carried out 14 home searches in relation to the recent theft of a Canadian gold coin valued at $4 million, the largest ever minted in the world. The huge disc, named “Big Maple Leaf” and weighing about 100 kilograms (220 pounds), had been stolen from Berlin’s Bode Museum on March 27. The gilded coin was not found, police said. Investigators from Berlin’s criminal investigation office said they presumed it was sold off either whole or in bits and pieces. The coin, minted in 2007 within a very limited series, was made of 99.999 percent pure gold and had a portrait of British Queen Elizabeth II on one side and a Canadian maple leaf on the other. It was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the largest gold coin in 2008. The theft was discovered when a ladder was found next to the train tracks, as well as a wheelbarrow, which was apparently used to transport the loot. Don.......
