A good buddy of mine was goin through some boxes at his fathers house & found this, he knows Im into WW2 stuff so he gave it to me. His father thought it was given to his father in Los Angeles when he was being shipped home from the Pacific at the end of the war. Can anyone tell me anything about it at all? It is in very good condition considering it was folded up at the bottom of a box for over 60 years, no tears or holes. I might frame it up to display..........I absolutely love it. Any info is greatly appreciated!
it says "WELCOME BUDDIES......LOS ANGELES GREETS YOU"

I initially thought it was either an early WWII due to the helmet style or a well preserved WWI banner. I'm now going with American Legion convention banner from the 1930's:

"Overnight the city's appearance completely changes. There are "Welcome, Buddies" signs on haberdashers' shops, hardware stores and mortuary establishments. The streets
are festooned with coloured lights in elaborate design. Flags fly from every flagpole. Banners hang in the windows. In Kansas City a monstrous wood and cardboard doughboy covered the facade of one department store. In Detroit a busy boulevard was transformed into the main street of a French village."

"Each Convention city tries to outdo its predecessors in the variety and splendour of entertainment offered to the guests. There are football games, big league baseball
games, military demonstrations and fashion parades, as well as land and water sporting events of all descriptions in which the Legionnaires themselves often compete. From
seven to nineteen military balls are scheduled, and fireworks displays go on simultaneously. There are band, bugle, drum and drill corps contests, beauty contests and air
circuses. "

Im noticing that the battle scenes in red on right & left of the blue faces are both WW1 scenes. Left shows em charging the trenches, barbed wire & bayonettes & a telltale bi-plane above. Right shows 2 small battleships with a bi-plane circling. Im kinda thinking its some sort of WW1 reunion banner from the 30's or so as well Harry. Thank you all for your help.

'Really??,well.. how about a nice cup of shut the f*(&( up!!" I think it was aimed at the anti Vietnam movement!! I'dlove to get a copy for my work shop!!!

I have to agree that it is from WWI. I found a reference in Google books that talks about "Welcome Buddies" banners for the boys returning from the war. It must have been a popular theme back then. Sorta like the yellow ribbons people have used in more recent years...

Nice..... I am going on a treasure hunt in my museum to look for a neat Zippo cigarette like I found quite awhile ago. I was told it was from the Pacific theatre and has the " Big Red One" engraved on the lid, and all the campaigns the guy was in engraved all over it. When I find it, I will do a separate post on it..........NGE

The "How about a nice big cup of Shut the f--k Up" soldier is my favorite! This past year I had memo pad made with his picture, except saying: "From the Desk of Mr. Jim --------- , ect.
