World Treasure Atlas - Difficult to get

I'm selling my copy of the ultra rare World Treasure Atlas by Thomas P. Terry. Written in 1978, 1st edition as there were no second editions. It is in really good quality.

Here is what I know about it from the research that I have done:

46 copies exist in libraries worldwide, the book is exceedingly difficult to find for sale, it is much rarer and more valuable than the US Treasure Atlases. It took me years to find my copy after waiting and waiting. It is the definitive serious treasure hunter's guide to buried treasure from all around the world. The stories are legitimate as I have found references to the ones in my area in local books. The information saves you time and money from running around to libraries and archives and trying to find your first set of clues on where to look and what to look for.

I have posted it on ebay and amazon as well, but I would prefer to sell it to someone within the community, not an outsider unfamiliar with the book. I want to sell it to someone who will protect it as I have. I am willing to buy it back at a later point in time from you, should you purchase it.

The asking price is 2400$ Canadian, shipping included within reason. I believe this is on the low end of the book's true value, as in the right hands it's a treasure trove of knowledge. I'm selling it because I need the money.

I'll throw in an archival storage box and a box of gloves for handling the book. I would like to see the book preserved and well protected.

*Addendum* I've uploaded 4 more pictures of the book to squash any false claims that I do not own this atlas. The pictures of the back and the sides were taken at a different time of day and in different lighting. The silver area in the first photo is the same box as the one in the final pic.

I started detecting in mid 70s - just about every TH'er I knew and I was in like 3 clubs - had a copy of it
since back then there were not many other treasure books out - so don't think it as rare as you think

Hi, thanks for your response. If it's so common then why are there only 2 copies for sale online right now anywhere, and it takes ages upon ages to get your hands on one? The people who own a copy are not willing to part with it, that's the truth. Otherwise there'd be copies up for purchase everywhere, but even AbeBooks, the rare book people don't have a single one. Furthermore there is a great lack of interest in discussing the book on the forum, despite it being as you say so popular. I find that very odd that such a useful manual would be kept under wraps.

Furthermore you did not give an estimate of how large these clubs you speak of were, just a vague statement. Also, why is there only 1 copy in all the libraries in all of Europe? Anyone from there should be very interested in having one. And finally, one of the pictures circulating on google of this atlas is the very same picture that I took. If anyone has copies, it is people from your generation who are holding onto it quite firmly.

I saw a few for sale online 10 years ago going for 1800$ USD, this was before the author's unfortunate passing. There won't be more of these anytime soon, only fewer and fewer.

You mean the one that's in rough shape, being sold for roughly 1400$ USD by some guy on ebay? I haven't been able to find any other copies for sale. Look, guys, if you don't want to buy it that's fine. This sale is for those who are willing to pay for the book. It took me a decade to get my copy so i'm not willing to part for it cheaply. But **** happened and I need to sell.

Prime Yes that`s the one .
That book does seem to be very hard to find...i think someone was on here maybe 1/2 years ago looking for one .

Lol, that's funny. Yeah, I was trying to get more information on it. There was one other person asking about it even longer ago though, but he did not get anywhere. It's very hard to get a true estimate of the price of something that very few people are willing to sell. I'd pay a lot for it but that's because I know how much time it takes to run around trying to find your first treasure clue in some library that may or may not have a book with a treasure story related to the region. It doesn't mean you'll find the loot, but it sure makes it easier to get going.

I'd be willing to buy it back next year from anyone who buys it from me, for a small profit in their favor provided the book is well taken care of. I'm not greedy, I just ran into a rock and a hard place.

Just FYI, Ebay is a horrible way to find a set price for something. I can post my challenge coin collection for $10,000 and then have my friend use his account to "buy" it, there by attempting to establish a ridiculous set point so I can sell others for inflated prices. That kind of stuff happens every day there. If its as rare and valuable as you claim, have a known auction house sell it.

apparently not as "valuable" across the pond. this is availbale right now

Yeah, I agree that ebay is not the best method because of the reasons you pointed out. I've seen the 1800$ USD price on Amazon, and typically most people wouldn't go to that length to fake something. People have busy lives that stress them out enough as it is. That said the editions I refer to were on Amazon for a few months, but at that time I did not have the money to purchase either. I am not familiar with auction houses, furthermore the problem with this book is that aside from some people who got their hands on a copy in the 70's, and a few here and there between then and now, very few people know it exists. Selling it is like trying to sell gold to someone who has never seen nor heard of a precious metal before.

rare has nothing to do with value. I can paint of picture of you and its the only one in the world, yet I probably couldnt get anyone to pay $1 for it.

Have you seen this book in person, have you read it? Do you know what's in it?

Whoever put that up there has gotta put more effort into it if they want to discredit my claims: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-l...?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1513005538&sr=8-60

1. They're using my photograph, they could have put some effort into it and at least photoshopped it to look different. That's just lazy and half-assed. They didn't even bother changing the condition of the book from "new" to "used". Like there would be an edition of this that's brand new.
2. It's out of stock.
3. Some schmuck created that with a false pretense of selling it, for whatever reason.
4. The very odd hostility coming from some members of this forum regarding some guy they don't know(me), selling a book that has nothing to do with them is very intriguing. What do they have to lose by me selling it here? Either sell your copies for dirt cheap, out on the open market, not to your friends, or give it a rest.

For that matter, why did you crop out the portion of your Amazon UK picture that says "out of stock"? You obviously manipulated it to either troll or you have some other agenda.

Prime, so that is indeed your pic on Abe. Fair enough...apologize
for the "stole" comment.

Still, WorldCat lists numerous copies in libraries all over America.

World treasure atlas (Map, 1978) [WorldCat.org]

Granted, you may not be not asking too high of a price, but "Ultra
Rare" describes a book that has only a few copies existing.

Sadly, people have been screwed over so many times we're all just
suspicious.

And before anyone claims that the stories in the book are made up, or something else that's incorrect, I can attest that I've personally followed up on most of the ones in my area and I did in fact find them in local books after a few days of searching. These are legit, and yes some are merely hearsay of one sentence, but others go into much more detail. It is then up to each treasure hunter to piece the clues together and decide if they want to keep investigating or move on to another one. Gary, your best bet would be the US Treasure Atlas which is much more common and easy to obtain. The World Treasure Atlas omits the US, I double checked, it covers most of the other world regions.

DizzyDigger, apology accepted. I'll concede your point on ultra rare, I based it on how long it took me to get my hands on it. I am also suspicious myself of why it was so hard to get it and why I could never generate a serious discussion on it. I'd love to upload a picture of the contents, but there is a copyright in place that I don't want to violate. It's taking a bit of effort to track down the copyright owner. I would be pretty happy to establish some sort of base price for it, so everyone can get a fair deal. Like I mentioned, I'd pay a lot for it because I've done a fair bit of boots on the ground research and I know it takes a long time to follow just one story, though it is pretty damn fun.

I don't want to screw anyone over, that's why I'm also offering to buy it back for a slightly higher price than I sell it for. I keep my word, but you don't know that, so I don't hold it against you. I am also concerned about selling it to someone who will not protect it. Some bloody Nigerian scammers tried to buy it already on Ebay. It was cute, in an annoying kind of way, or maybe they just wanted to infect my PC, who knows. They were very persistent.

Cheers,

Prime
