The past three days I've been working at two separate locations. One cow pasture and one hay field. The cow pasture is the same one where I pulled the 1834 hard times token. On Friday it yielded the three ringer, shotgun brass, modern fired bullets, 4 half horse shoes, and the chain. Any help on the purpose of the chain is welcome. All the coinage including, a 1941 silver quarter, two wheaties, and a hand full of clad, as well as a type of round horse shoe that I've never seen before came from the hay field. Some of you may remember my "10 day permission" post. It's the same property but they just cut and bailed the hay. Good news is no one has given me a deadline. 🤘

Nice finds. That '41 quarter sure has been passed around a lot! Congratulations on the finds. Thanks for posting.

That shoe is an unusual find. That's the type used to treat navicular disease. Cool finds!

Your chain is a trace chain, similar to this one but with different toggles.

Yes, that trace chain is quite a find as far as farming artifacts go. After horse farming died out, a lot of the chains got repurposed. The toggle ends were removed and chains linked together to make one longer chain. For that reason, complete ones, like yours, are somewhat hard to find. Congrats

Very nice finds and photos! Thanks for sharing them! Good luck on your next outing!
