Hello I'm hunting in the northeast
I dug a button it says.
---Beth. Workhouse. That's all I can make out.
It's like 25 mm flat shank on it. Tha other is what appears to be a lion on it.
No idea what it is hope someone can help me ID it
Thanks hh gl

Good morning Charlie. I believe that button is from overalls or jeans. If the back is rusty (rusted away) then it's most likely modern.

I can't ID the square thing. I can't see the image well enough.

Good luck buddy!

I could swear it says Lambeth Workhouse. If so that is a great find. The Workhouse in Lambeth (St Mary), London: Surrey

edit- The other piece based on the shape I would say is a cufflink. Appears to depict a griffin versus a lion.

Diggumup, I agree, I think you're correct, after enlarging the photo I see it as reading Lambeth workhouse as well.

I found a photo of a similar button, not sure if it's an original or repro.

A picture of the back may help on both. Can you read a back mark at all on the button?

There's also photo of the back of the button at the posted link, here's the photo.

Eastcoasthunter the words on the back are rather prominent with decent size lettering in the case of this button it says "Edmunds & Rorke -London" so maybe you can read some of what's on the back of your's.

That's a very cool find. Soak it in heated hydrogen peroxide & after you're done rinse it with water & a little dish soap. If you would post front & back pictures after cleanup that would be great.

Looks like an early 19th century button.
