My Niece and Nephew just bought an old 1890 Queen Ann style house to restore and flip and invited me to hunt the yard, big house on a small lot and many limbs down from abandonment and weeds from years of neglect. For now I could only get to the areas between the houses and dug everything, found lots of junky junk, and some interesting junk...a costume bracelet, a brass hose nozzle, a medallion and a Woodmen token. (DOUBLE DARN IT!!! how that medallion did look like a 20 Dollar gold piece with only the rim showing!) Does anyone know the history of the Woodmen token? It says "Coin Test" on the back...going to get the yard in shape and then the hunt is on!!!

JunkShopFiddler,
That is a curious token - from what I can see on the "coin test" side has a pictorial of a stump with maybe two crossed axes and then there are some words and it seems the bottom on says 'claim'? yes/no? However, a quick perusal of 'the net' indicates they are an insurance company making the token even more unique and the wording on it even odder.

The One Day at a Time token, I am thinking the other side should say, among other things, When I get around To It!

Yup, brass water related thingy's, there must be a ton of them out there in older lawns, they sure do get one worked up due to the steady loud signal! Good hunting to ya.....................63bkpkr

The "One Day at a Time" token is given out by Alcoholics Anonymous organization. Great finds and I am sure that that yard is going to give you plenty more. Happy hunting, Sub

Dum Tacet Clamat is "Though silent, he speaks".

Here is another Woodmen of the World item:

Nice finds JunkShopFiddler. That "woodmen" token look new.[/QUOTE]

I think it is new. feels like aluminum...but it's so worn it looks old. Thanks all for the explanations of the motto, I'm still curious about the meaning of the "COIN TEST" legend.

I've found a few of those brass water nozzles. The last one was 2 days ago! The tokens are cool!

hey - is this house still getting cleaned out.......I have a random question....please check your messages..thanks
Pete
