one thought was that the wooden legs and wheels were added afterwards but the paint color looked too uniform and too well done...

I think it's a grocery store display. I don't see any kind of metal liner which would be needed to keep water running out on the floor. Look below where the 5cent is the wear pattern just doesn't fit. Can you post up a pic of the inside? Also have you flipped it over to look at the bottom of the bin? A lot of the replica makers forget to distress the bottoms of pieces like this. Where did it come from? Are there any tourist attractions close by? It reminds me of a lot of the bins used in the gift stores at Knotts Berry Farm.

The wood is distressed, but the logo looks brand new.... I agree with boogeyman. Looks like a display.For a collectible I would put it somewhere in the $25 to $50 range, depending on where you live.

the last photo shows an end panel with some sort of label.
it feels like stiff paper and i could peel some off but couldn't make out what it was.
it looks like it was painted over.
