Yeah... Creepy...

Do a Google image search on "carnival clown carved figurine". You will see some similar examples.

I suspect it is folk art. I would classify it as "vintage" though it could be as old as early 20th C.

You don't mention where you got it or where you are from (continent, country, state,...). That is always helpful info for researching pieces like this.

Cool ! Though I Hate Live male Clowns as a Rule :tongue3:

That's particularly Interesting because the Creator Got the Skin Color so Correct,
At first it Looked like a Real girls face behind the Makeup to Me.

Nice Find :coffee2:

Thanks for letting us know where you're from and welcome to T-net.

I looked a little more using the Australia angle on research. All I managed to do was confirm in my mind that clowns are internationally unsettling.

It obviously is a real girl's face. Because there is something sinister involved, as usually is the case with clowns. He did not mention her height?
I don't know which I dislike more - clowns or mimes.
Wish it was legal to tar and feather mimes.
Noticed the hole in the arm, can't think what material it was used to make the old dolls. Reminds of those.

The amount of Bald above the Eyes Reminds me a Bit of Schlitzi.
Though He was a He

Or maybe Pip or Flip

It strikes me a a home-made piece, not commercially or mass produced. :icon_scratch:
Maybe something a grandfather made for their granddaughter?

She obviously found it kinda creepy (thanks very much Stephen King) probably why it ended up at the garage sale. :laughing7:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... items like this are only worth what folks are willing to pay for them.

Personally, in most cases I Like Creepy ! the One above Is Likable imo

There is just Something about Male Clowns. Maybe it's that they Can be Scouling
at you & If their Makeup is right, it can be hard to Tell. I Also Dislike Crying Clowns for some Reason.

Most Female Clowns I've seen have been Cute. but then again
the only place I've seen them were in TV Comedy shows where they were Supposed to look Cute.

I Think Seinfeld had a cute Girlfriend Who was a clown.
& Creeped Him Out, Though I can't Find a Pic.

Just the Ones who Scared Kramer
