Wood from Florida???

[Gator-Flea]

This peace of wood came from Florida years ago. I have been told what type of wood it is but have for got . Can any one tell me what it's called. You can tell how big it is by the pocket knife in the pic, but it weight all most nothing.

I believe it is a cypress knee. In swampy areas cypress roots will have growths that will grow up. They are called knees. Tony

Bald Cypress knee yep...very light...rot and termite resistant.

Dang, I'm late replying to this...missed a good chance answering. Yep, it's a cypress knee....look what you can make out of them, I've seen other holiday characters + lamps too.
