i just came from the lbh at noodles, i showed this item and someone asked that i put it here, it was found in az about 30 years ago, we were on a club hunt and i made a sweep with my det. it beeped, and there was this piece of wood, i hit it with my digging tool and the result is in the pic.

Interesting find. Looks like a couple of .22 bullets shot into a tree branch years ago.

they are not 22, i dont know what size they are but allmost the size of a mini ball. had posted this in todays finds but jeff moved it, i realy didnt know where to put it. we were in northern az when i found the wood chip, i thought it prolly was part of tree that had rotted away, it was just laying on the ground, its been a long time since i found it and the circumstances are a little dim. thanks for looking

That is definitely an interesting find! It would have made me nuts trying to figure out why a piece of wood set off my detector! lol

Yeah Olegoat. I thought it was really cool!

Thanks for putting it up here. The bullets are bigger than 22 but they didn't look like any modern rounds I have seen and they looked old!

Probably some CSI from the 1800s were looking for those bullets to solve a murder case........

lead fired into wood will prevent the rotting of the host. I've found several bullets that were fired into trees well after the tree is gone, and a thin layer of wood protests the bullet. Very cool find.

Olegoat...I meant to tell you at the LA hunt....what you have there is a limb from a rare "BULLET TREE". If you chopped the actual tree down, there would have been a rifle inside it. :icon_jokercolor:

BALDING BOY, fine time to tell what kind if tree that was , i will never find it now, i can only hope someone else found another limb and cut the tree down and got the rifle, and you can be assured i will carry a chain saw if i ever get back to that area in az again
BEF it was my pleasure to bring my junk for you to see,,,,
OH by the way i am home now, i waved the cork from the jug over the breather of the escort, it growled at mustangs and snickered as it passed them

thats a cool find... could the wood be a glass insulater holder from a telegragh line.. there usually made of locust wood ,that will not rot for years... someone was trying to shot the insulater? bullets came in at the same angle...just a thought...i found one simular to yours but it could just be in some highly rot resistent tree limb??
