a friend found this in an old home that was being torn down its a odd piece that we cant figure out
the use of lol.. it is hand forged with very ornate scrollwork the handle folds out and locks it looks like
you could add a wooden handle to the end. the pan looking end is 4 and 1/2 inches across and has
a raised area into the inside part of the pan. when opened and locked it is 18 inches long

Looks to me like it would be for melting lead over an open fire.

Let it cool and pack it away in your pack.

let me tell a little more about this piece it is made of steel with brass locks on the handle i dont think its thick enough for melting lead the edge of the pan part is serated for some reason it is reall ornate on the handle and folds up to be compact it has a indention about the size of a silver dollar in the bottom of the pan part rounded with holes it the indention...the holes might be just rust holes not for sure.. the handle end looks kinda like a hoe handle where you would put a wooden piece in it to extend it even farther im sure it has a utilitatarin use of some sort but i dont understand taking the time to dress it up with all the scrollwork it is very well made and looks to me like its hand forged and hammered

Maybe an offering plate from a church? Nah, it would have been BIGGER! Whatever it is, it's cool!
