Your rock looks just like volcanic rock we have up the North Umpqua a few miles. So far the one from Srilanka looks just like a rock to me.

That specific gravity of 3.5, if accurate, points at a gemstone of some kind. Diamond is about 3.5, as is chrome diopside, and some garnet, and others.
