I found this at an old foundation site. My first impression was a button because of the concave shape. I didn't think much about it til one of the people i detect with looked at it and said you need to clean it cause it could be a witch coin?
Well that statement peeked my interest so i cleaned it and the image of the Indian appeared.
It turned out to be a 1788 Massachusetts penny. I guess my question is were people that superstitious to deface a coin that at that time would have bought quite a few supplies? Also is something like this of special interest to collectors today?

Thanks, Broken Knee

There are Many Reasons People put
holes in coins.

From just to do it, To making Wizzers,
to Stringing them together So as not to loose them.

Only Superstition I Can think of off hand
would be to nail it to a wall for good Luck.

I Never heard of a "witch Coin"

Which Coin would be used for a Witch coin I Don't Know.
