I should of took the picture of it but did not. Location Fifield wisconsin, was passing thru up north this weekend. This is on the west side of town. It was a old brick school house that i went to when i was young in the 60's. The farmers field across the road was at one time a play ground and softball field. The walk heading to the east was a sledding spot in the winter. The swings and playground equipment were on the south side of the building. All that remains is a large pile of brick and such that is slowly being hauled off. the ground is snow covered and frozen now. But this should be a good spot for silver come spring time. The school is also listed as haunted on a web site. Fifield was once the country seat and was much larger in the past. It is located on Hwy 13 up in Price county. I will give it a shot myself come spring.

Sorry to hear about the school. There was a group trying to save its demolition ,but to no avail....You are right...great place to search....
But hate to pop your history bubble...Fifield was never the County Seat......but is and was definately a great place to drink!!! ;)

In 1878, Phillips and Fifield competed for the site of the Worcester Town Hall. The conflict was more important than it would seem since everyone involved knew that more than the town hall was at stake. The winning village would also be the most eligible candidate for the seat of a new county the settlers expected to be soon carved out of eastern Chippewa.

With the future of the county seat at stake, Fifield called on Flambeau for help and approximately 160 boisterous voters from both villages descended on Phillips. Liquor flowed freely both on the train and at Phillips so the Fifield advocates were-so the story goes-hoodwinked by the wily Phillips crowd. When the tally was taken Phillips won the town hall and, in 1879, became the county seat of newly-formed Price County. You can see the demolition pages here

I am a Price County History buff.....

When should we go up there?

My early gradeschool was supposed to be haunted. Apparently the toilets flushed by themselves, bloody mary lived in the mirrors, the school was built on an indian cemetery, and bigfoot lived in the woods behind the school. (I'm not making any of this up. These were the rumors the kids all told.) I was scared of being on the playground by myself. I was afraid that Bigfoot would come chase me if I was caught alone! true story ;D

Carpool to Fifield?? Who owns this property?? Is it public still or other? How bout a big northwoods campout and MD competition here next summer??

Well gyspie sounds like you been there, i went by there and there will be some shaved ground to hunt. Spring thaw will be about May. According to the link posted it got knocked down on my birthday to boot.

I have been here many times ...I will see who bought it and if they will allow treasure hunters . If so I will let you all know... There is alot of places to hunt up there and you guys could make a weekend out of it..There is a little museum ran by the Price County Historical society there that would also give you ideas of where to dig....definately go in May,just after snow is gone...no bugs or ticks or new green to deal with ....
From what I understood a few months ago, it was owned by a Church and the church was turning it back to the town, in order for the town to receive grants for its restoration ....this evidently didnt pan out???
Will let you know what I find out.

Sounds like a good place to hunt!

Keep us posted Pete!
