I'll Start

Plum Creek in Nugget Lake County Park
Gold was mined there in the late 1800s, I have found good gold there. Lots of garnets. The American Diamond Mining Co. sold stock for a diamond mine on Plum Creek saying it was "the new South Africa".

ST. CROIX RIVER
The Dalles of the St. Croix River are known to have gold. Somebody found an third of an ounce Nugget in the river in the early 1900s. Placer Nuggets and dust are found in the crevices and bars.

And now it's an off limits scenic waterway.

Lake Michigan beaches. Lots of black sand and a little gold. Found a BB sized nugget at one spot. Look for dark sand. 1-30 specks per bucket.

Marathon County. Dells of the Eau Claire river. No longer able to prospect on county owned land.

Portage County. Tomorrow/Wapaca River. A little gold if you look. 1 speck per bucket.

Door County. Beaches will yield magnetite. Haven't found gold yet.

I find a lot of black sand at the beach on Lake Michigan by me. The metal detector will give me some signals that are hard to pin point. And when I dig I find nothing. Could that possible be gold specs I'm picking up?

Probably you're hitting black sand and hot rocks within. Many small black pebbles will stick to a magnet. Most of the gold is not much bigger than the sand grains, so easily missed when dug.

I have ran a blue bowl with 5 - 5 gallon buckets from the two rivers area and not a spec of gold and gave up we are in the wrong state buddy

It takes a lot of fly specs of gold to add up to what you can find in one ring.
I gave my prospecting gear away. I Hunt for nuggets with a detector now.

Try a little further (20 mi) south! That's where I found the nugget!

Is it just the picture, or is that copper/gold halfbreed? Some of the areas look kinda coppery.

Nice nugget! Sure beats the BB I found!

Update on Door County, found 3 ~100's in a bucket of beach sand from there. Though that sand looked imported from Keewanee or Manitowoc counties. Lots of clay content and small stones.

There was an Illinois member on the Illinois board that found a couple of big pieces some where in the Southern Kettle Moraine's

Then I remember some one with a Holy Hill WI. Nugget. If I find them I will post the links.

Bagged a #200 speck in the East River in Green Bay.

I was digging through last years junk bucket and found a grungy dirty heavy rock.
I soaked it in some Muriatic Acid and out popped this beauty. 8.45 grams
I bought a new Xtera 705 for this years hunting, but glad I kept the Gold Bug.
