Today my bankroll was so low I had to stop home & grab a bag of dimes to dump & deposit just to avoid bouncing checks. I headed about 20 minutes out of town to do the dump because I didn't want to make an extra stop at any of the branches where I'll be dumping halves this weekend (after I get paid tomorrow). I dumped at the rural branch of my dump bank & deposited at the rural branch of my pickup bank. I couldn't leave without picking up at least a LITTLE coin... and all I could afford was a little. So I took $20 in nickels and $20 in cents. The nickels were Loomis & I haven't opened them yet, but the cents were wrapped right at Ye Olde Towne Bank Branch. I've had some luck with bank-wrapped cents in the past, but haven't had this kind of luck in a long time.

That's SEVENTY wheats. Out of 40 rolls.

27 different ones. Nothing rare - most are 40's and 50's, plus a 37 and a 39. No S mint marks in the lot, which is strange for this many wheats.

All told about 1/3 of the cents were copper.

I think I'll be going back to score another few trays of these rolls as soon as I can manage.

Just finished looking for errors & variations and discovered a 1998 WAM. Unfortunately it is in almost as rough shape as the wheats.

Congrats on the nice cents! I have yet to find a 98-00 WAM, and I have painstakingly been looking through all 98-00 cents.

Trying to repost the Wide AM pic because this site is being stupid with pictures for some reason. I resized them down so they'd actually load in the page, but now they're not even uploading.

Rough shape indeed. I've got a few 1998 and 2000 WAM's in the same condition. I know the rule about not cleaning old coins, as it ruins their numismatic value, but I wonder in cases like this if it's worth taking exceptional measures to clean it up. Considering the coins only 15 years old, it might be worth a shot.

I think the gunk right in the middle of the memorial could be removed; but the discoloration around the top left rim and in other places is probably there to stay. It is actually browning of the copper, I think. Not sure how this happens in such a blotchy way though.

I don't know if anyone would pay anything for a modern not-all-that-rare variation like this in such crappy condition. If it was a '99, I'm sure I could sell it and get some cash. But probably not this one.
