During the New England winters, anyone who lives up here will tell you that there is an abundance of traction sand dropped everywhere. Including the little school parking lot that I had detected. (It wasn't today) My late buddy Gordon and I use to detect a lot of places together, but my favorite site was the West Parish School near Gloucester, MA. After Gordon's passing, I headed down to the school yard for old times sake and detected for about an hour or so before deciding to head back to the truck. As I walked along the edge of the parking lot, I came across a pile of the gritty winter sand. I half heartedly passed the coil of my Whites Classic ID over the swept pile. Through the headphones came a less than solid beep. It was registering "foil/nickel/GOLD". I chuckled under my breath and started to walk past. Then, the voice in my head stopped me and I bent down to investigate. Already thinking it was foil or a nickel, I dug. I was shocked when a gold ring popped out. I was amazed...and glad I dug it. This pile would have been scooped up within the week as spring cleaning was under way and tossed. My thought is someone took her glove off during a cold winter day, and the ring slid off with the glove, hit the ground and was lost, swept into a pile of sand in the spring, and along I came. Thanks Gordon. I know you put me there at that moment in time! The ring is missing two stones and is of 10K yellow gold.
