For those of us in the colder climates there is a time when we cant swing a MD. Dig bottles or look for arrow heads. Everything is frozen.
What does eveyone here do with there time?
I myself deer hunt. That lasts into December. After that is my coins. I concentrate on trying to make a little money on ebay. I do a little snowshoeing but thats about it.

This will be the 1st year I won't be trapping over the winter, and the 1st year I will be "seriously" doing some MD'ing. Central Indiana can have some harsh, cold, and snowy winters. Last year was wet & warm, so we're about due for a cold snowy one.

As far as keeping occupied this winter, not sure....may just hibernate ;D No, may spend some time at the local library researching for some places to hunt come springtime.

Hoping my MD will arrive soon so I can get enough hunting in yet this year to "hold me over".

Winter does not stop me. It just means I have to dig before I can detect. I did it last winter and I will do it again, does not matter how deep the snow gets ;D

I'll probably hide in the Pennsylvania Room at the Carnegie Library.
Years back I remember a display case that had peoples diaries in it from the early settlers days.

I remember reading one that was a woman's diary, and she was writing about how she shot a wolf to protect her child.

I was researching geneology then, but, who knows what might be in those diaries of interest to TH'ers.

I'll spend more Time here.

Hopefully We don't get a Winter this year.
if you Pray,

Pray for Global Warming ;)

Over the past three winters here in MD it has only been too cold to detect or the ground frozen about a total of three weeks. That is to say around the middle of the DelMarVa peninsula where I live. That is not bad in my book. I will gladly take that any year.

Gonna be a Cold one

THE INDIANS ON A REMOTE RESERVATION IN SOUTH DAKOTA ASKED THEIR NEW CHIEF IF THE COMING WINTER WAS GOING TO BE COLD OR MILD.

SINCE HE WAS A CHIEF IN A MODERN SOCIETY HE HAD NEVER BEEN TAUGHT THE OLD SECRETS. WHEN HE LOOKED AT THE SKY HE COULDN'T TELL WHAT THE WINTER WAS GOING TO BE LIKE.

NEVERTHELESS, TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE, HE TOLD HIS TRIBE THAT THE WINTER WAS INDEED GOING TO BE COLD AND THAT THE MEMBERS OF THE VILLAGE SHOULD COLLECT FIREWOOD TO BE PREPARED.

BUT BEING A PRACTICAL LEADER, AFTER SEVERAL DAYS HE GOT AN IDEA. HE WENT TO THE PHONE BOOTH, CALLED THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND ASKED, "IS THE COMING WINTER GOING TO BE COLD?"

"IT LOOKS LIKE THIS WINTER IS GOING TO BE QUITE COLD," THE
METEOROLOGIST AT THE WEATHER SERVICE RESPONDED.

SO THE CHIEF WENT BACK TO HIS PEOPLE AND TOLD THEM TO COLLECT EVEN MORE FIREWOOD IN ORDER TO BE PREPARED.

A WEEK LATER HE CALLED THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AGAIN. "DOES IT STILL LOOK LIKE IT IS GOING TO BE A VERY COLD WINTER?"

"YES," THE MAN AT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AGAIN REPLIED, "IT'S GOING TO BE A VERY COLD WINTER."

THE CHIEF AGAIN WENT BACK TO HIS PEOPLE AND ORDERED THEM TO COLLECT EVERY SCRAP OF FIREWOOD THEY COULD FIND.

TWO WEEKS LATER THE CHIEF CALLED THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AGAIN. "ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THE WINTER IS GOING TO BE VERY COLD?"

"ABSOLUTELY," THE MAN REPLIED. "IT'S LOOKING MORE AND MORE LIKE IT IS GOING TO BE ONE OF THE COLDEST WINTERS WE'VE EVER SEEN."

"HOW CAN YOU BE SO SURE?" THE CHIEF ASKED.

THE WEATHERMAN REPLIED, "THE INDIANS ARE COLLECTING FIREWOOD LIKE CRAZY."

From Minnesota...GOOD ONE JEFF OF PA! ;D :D ;D

WINTER....HATE THE THOUGHT....COLD....SNOW......YUK!!

Quilting is my winter pasttime thing to do. Next best thing to dreaming of getting out to detect again.

Winter is my time to hunt the vegetation is down, the bugs are gone.
Winters are moderate here, cold somedays but it dont last.
And everones indoors staying warm, cmon winter.

Vermontpackrat, you sound like me. I hunt deer every chance that I can get. Then I also sell on ebay. Our deer season ends after the first week in Dec. Last year I was out digging 13 days in Dec after the close of the season. We had no frozen ground until Feb. After that I spent my time out in the woods hiking and taking photographs. Ya gotta love winter.
And Sapper23, sorry ole buddy, I'll take Penna winters over the sunny south. Ya gotta love the change of seasons.

Lumbercamp & VRP,

I don't blame ya'll for season change's threw out the months: Weather change is good for the" old soul" LOL. I Deer hunt to, or I should say, not no more: Metal detecting to over. besides, all we have down here is German Shepperd's with horns: but you if you guys could send
a nice North eastern down this way.. ;D I have two unknown wrecks to uncover!!!
