This token is about the size of a quarter. it has a small hole, like for a chain (maybe its not original.) There is a bust on the front and "MAJ. GENERAL WINFIELD SCOTT" On the reverse is 7 words or names. From the top is "CHIPPEWA" then 4 that I can't make out then "CHAPULTEPEC" and "MEXICO" thanks for the help. It was found in NW Indiana in a farm field.

Gen. Scott was commander of U.S. Regular Forces in the Mexican-American War, while Zachary Taylor command the volunteers and militia units. Chapultepec was one of the last major battles of the war before the fall of Mexico City. I would assume the others that you cannot read are other battles.

Scott was defeated by Franklin Pierce in the 1852 Presidential election. Perhaps this is a campaign token for Scott?

EDIT: I've made out two of the other battles listed - Cerro Gordo and Churubusco.

EDIT 2: It is an 1852 campaign token! Nice find. See:

As PL notes, this is a political medal from the campaign of General Winfield Scott, who was the Whig presidential candidate in 1852. The most recent (2004) edition of the price guide for The Encyclopedia of Political Buttons by Ted Hake values it at $50.
