Will Rhodium react to a metal detector?

if its a metal or has elecricial properties to it I would think it would cause a reaction in a metal detector -- high power lines mess with the "electricial feild" made by the detectors coil and of course metal detectors react to minerails in salt warter as well , plus it reacts to metals -- of it has any of those properties I would say "yep" it is possible.

A metal detector will react to any of platinum-group metals, including rhodium, osmium, iridium, palladium, and platinum. (OK, how many did I miss here?)

not entirely true, if the metal is in trace amounts, it may not be sensible enough to detect it. You may try and take it to a university geology department for examination. Heavy metals (especially gold) tend to coalesce in quarts. Lead-silver compounds (like galena) normally turn white after time, and if it was silvery coming out of the ground, you may have something interesting.

I once found a piece of galena in a yard, and my detector didn't hit it. I have not checked other pieces, but I wonder if the sulphur in galena modifies the lead to be non detectable. And it doesn't oxidize the same as pure lead. If no one knows, I may have to go and do a scientific experiment. Have you seen my assistant? Little guy, white lab coat, responds to the name "Igor"?

BTW, the title asks if "Rhodium" will react to a metal detector. Rhodium is an element which is also a metal in the platinum-group. But the text of the original message seems to be asking if a mineral containing rhodium would react to a detector. Not necessarily. Gold minerals often don't have a detector reaction.

I'll stand by my original posting: an ingot of rhodium will react to a detector. A mineral or combination of minerals containing rhodium may not do a thing for a detector.

No, my Igor doesn't have a hunched back. Just short. I think the dingo got my assistant. I did enjoy watching Dr. Fronkhensteen and his lovely assistant.
