Will Florence sand in Myrtle Beach or leave it scorched earth with goodies all over?

My cousin lives in Southport, NC - about 30 (?) miles North of Myrtle.

I'm wondering the same thing - 5 hours one way for me, and haven't visited him in over a year.

Family is very important, and so is metal detecting.

In the past I've only gone about knee deep in that water, shark problems down there for several years. If I remember correctly it was only a couple years ago a swimmer was killed, and others were bitten as well. Haven't paid much attention to that lately.

Will the hurricane bring sharks closer in or further out? I know that question is quite reaching....

Depends where it lands. The last few storms around here have washed the sand away, leaving 6 foot high embankments along the dune side. The sand gets deposited in the beach side communities during the surge, and then sucks the beach away on the way out. A few of our Florida members posted some good finds after last years storms.

I am wondering the same for Maryland beaches. Sand is definitely moving around but that surf is too big and will get worse. I am watching and waiting.

It's time to visit the beach I mean your cousin

Hard to say... Irma left us with sand piled higher than ever on the west FL coast : (

It all depends on the angle of the wind and surf.

they get bigger shoulder deep thats why I wear a mask so I can see um coming

So what’s the verdict? 2 feet cuts or 2 feet of over burden?

Just walked around Surfside beach and Myrtle Beach South, I’m not going back.... maybe $1.00 in change in 3 hours

2 feet of overburden IMO

Well Ocean City md is sanded in quite heavily. This years been pretty bad so far.

Amen to that, I'm on a party text line for several of the OC MD hunters. Gold is just about unseen this year. Maybe 7 golds for the summer for these guys...and they live right there...Sad because this use to be a great beach, for several years I would average 25 to 28 gold per year....no more.

OBN, part of the problem is the style of the times. The young people getting married are getting and losing tungsten and titanium rings. I was getting a ring a day but not gold anymore. The replenishment coupled with lots of new waterproof machines keeps the beach much cleaner than it used to be. Tough digs.

Sunset Beach NC, about 45 minutes north of Myrtle Beach ~~ 2 guys stated a bust.
