will electrolysis ruin this?

Found this scabbard throat today and I was wondering if electrolysis would clean off the rust without ruining the brass



Oh yea, this is my crap iron after ecletrolysis. The stake looking piece is actually pewter. Any ideas?

If you regulate the current and monitor the progress you should be fine. Don't overdo it, and stop the process for periodic brushing.
