Hello,

I am planning a trip to see my dad for Christmas this year. I am interested in doing some hunting while there, and had a couple questions to ask. I am pretty sure he lives in Alcoa.

First of all, what are the laws concerning parks, schools, and other public areas in Alcoa and surrounding areas. Are there any beach or swimming areas that are public in these areas.

And also, if there is anyone in the area who is interested in a hunting partner over the holiday, please PM me, and maybe we can do some hunting.

Thank you,
Anthony

State parks are off limits to detecting. As a rule, most local(city/county) parks allow detecting but do have rules against vandalism, so be fastidious about how you dig and refill your holes. TVA (lake) property requires a free permit. You have to get these by mail so you won't have time before Christmas to get one. Most schools allow detecting if not fenced in or posted. It seems that here lately all the schools are being fenced in for the safety of the children..such times that we live in. Have fun.

Thank you for the information. I do always try my best to be tidy and neat when it comes to refilling holes. Hopefully I don't attract any unwanted attention from the law.

There several decent parks in that area. They had a huge country event at one of the Maryville parks. Your dad willknow the one near the library downtown. Havent had a chance to search it myself. All city parks are fair game and avoid the National Park. Knoxville has several schools, parks and some Civil War Battle Sites. And it is only about 12 miles away.
Where are you coming from and what is the detecting like there. Enjoy yourself while you are here. We are not a huge or fancy city but some of us call it home.

Thank you Rick for the information. As for me and where I am, I live in Virginia Beach, and typically hunt the ocean. New to detecting, only started this summer, but I have already ammassed a nice collection of jewelry. Have yet to find anything from the Civil War, but hope to find something this winter. While I have rarely been to Tennessee, it is one place I would love to live. So much history, beauty, and trout fishin. I do love mountains, but I find it hard to leave the Ocean. My wife and I are setting things in motion which will change where we are, but until then, I will be a surf pirate.
