Will a 17" coil add depth over the stock coil on the CTX?

Been hitting a beach with a stock coil and have just about maxed out its depth. If I get a 17" coil, will it add enough depth to be worth getting it?
Simple answer yes. I detect on land and I will get at least 3 additional inches with mine. Great for additional coverage and on plowed fields. Very sensitive too.

What depth are you getting now? I didn't see much added depth with the 17".....maybe 1/2-1"..... in my limited experience trying both sizes. The main advantage, as Pointman pointed out, is added coverage in large fields or at the beach.

Beware of the weight of the 17" coil it is a lot heavier than it looks and if your going to swing it for a long time consider a harness. I have it and do not use it because of the additional weight.

Yes, it will add depth. I get about 1.5 - 2 inches more depth in soil for coin sized objects. Since I can already get around 18" depths on beach sand with the pro-coil, I can imagine it gets a lot better with the 17" if you can stand to swing it for long periods.

I hit targets at beach over 22" with the 17" coil.

In my mild dirt, I gained 1/2 inch on dimes and a 1 inch on halves. HOWEVER, the fringe depth targets on the 11 inch coil sound more clear with the 17" coil.

It CAN. And probably will. Everything is site dependent. I find that I get the greatest increase at the Atlantic beaches that I sometimes hunt.

Remember that it will certainly add weight and change the balance of your swing. Enough so that for me I need to use a harness to go more than 2 hours with the 17 or my shoulder will be sore for days afterward.

On sand i'd say definitely, on ploughed ground i'd say it's doubtful on small silver etc
I saw a test done at a rally of a silver hammered penny buried at 7"-8" on a ploughed field, folk were offered to try to hit the coin with their machines, etrac's and ctx with 17" and stock coils couldn't hit it, some machines could get it like the Deus and T2 from memory.

In most ground in my area(test garden included) I don't pick up extra depth. But you do indeed cover more ground. I do envy you guys with mild soil!
