As noted both during, as well as at the end of the video, we only hunted the areas you are allowed to detect. Coins are not considered relics and are fair game at BLM areas, but as stated, local laws of the land were followed, most of the ghost towns were visits and not detected, we did check them out first to see if they were OK to detect or not.

BTW I'm sure those mission areas you stated you hunted on another forum were legal eh?

hey cobra, next time your in nv. give me a pm and maybe we could hook up, I've been trying to do some research on old towns (now missing from current maps) using historical maps from between 1888 and 1940's for the vegas area. (north and south) great finds and good vid. and how about that 5$ gold that guy found?! wow! hh GUNNER.

Sorry kuger but you've simply got your facts wrong. Just because I've hunted with someone at a park once or twice doesn't make them a co-hort. Not sure who you assume my "hero" is, but it's unwise to assume. Even if you're correct, it's really pointless, as I'm not them.

At any rate, I'll take this offline, no need to pollute my post with what may or may not have happened, and nonfactual information.

HH,
Brian

Hey Gunner, next time I'm out there I'll definitely shoot you a PM. We're planning to go back this fall, we mostly sift that dump, but there are a few places around there that are OK to detect, and there are lots of ghost towns to check out. It's interesting because most of the ghost town books were originally published in the 60's & 70's and are really out of date (even though they still sell them). They'll either say that nobody lives there, or show a bunch of buildings. Many of them have revived to some extent and have people living there now mining, or building recreational houses (BIG houses). Also most of the buildings shown in those books are long gone. Some of the towns are completely obliterated as modern mining operations have dumped mountains of mining tailings over what was once the town.

Many of them have gone the way of Aurora, the buildings are long gone (brick thieves stole the bricks in Aurora after WWII) and the town has been covered over with THICK sage brush. There's practically nothing there that would indicate it was once a thriving community, but there's still fun to find (heck finding them is half the battle), and some of them are OK to detect.

Brian

Hi Jim,

It's a lot of fun hunting in the desert, although it's certainly a lot different then turf hunting. Weather is a big factor there, it can be blazing hot, ice cold, wind and sand storms, torrential down pours can come out of no where, it can be very unpredictable. The desert is definitely a unique place, and it's beautiful in its own right. Most of these places have been well hammered, but it's still great to get out into the open, where there's few people, and just enjoy the outdoors. Finding stuff is just a bonus

I haven't seen you around in a while, I hope all is well.

HH,
Brian
