As you are searching your half and dime boxes, do you get an idea early on about whether the box is full of dumps or whether it CAN contain any silver?

When I see a Canadian coin, British, or Honduras or any other junk, I like it because then I know the box hasn't been culled through too many machines or tellers.

I call such boxes "wild", and when we get the first silver, I consider the box proven.

Woo-hoo !! Fast times in a world of Clad.

i normally figure by 10th roll if no silver it is a skunk, if i get something it is a nice "bonus"

Only way I could tell something fishy was going on, is if all the Dimes were overly shiny, then I could be pretty sure I have a solid 2011-D box.

I did a box this week, and the last roll had 2 / frankins and a 64 ken. Its not over till you open all the rolls. HH

+1 !

Just weigh the rolls.. and that will give you the story of the box. I weigh first to see if it has any 90%ers

Just weigh them and if it weighs in as an ALL clad roll, then resell it on Ebay promising silver. Also you want to have your buddy leave feedback he made 3 times as much as he paid for it. And lastly, put coins that you wont ever even find right next to the roll and in small writing say, you wont find these actual ones, but Im pumped at this weeks finds and wanted to share with you.

We do weigh our halves for fun. Can almost always predict a 90% as they are much heavier. Also can tell when a roll is short a coin :(

However, it's very hard to predict the 40%s as they just aren't that much heavier. I get ones that are light and have 40%s in them quite often.

I open them all!!!! Only way to know.

I like to weigh them all as well it is fun to see the numbers show up and when there is a 90 it jumps through the roof on the grains. But i generally only keep a couple of the heavy rolls and pull them aside so my wife can open them since she likes to find silver. She gets bored easily when we are not finding much so i do those alot while watching movies with her and generally find 40%ers in rolls that weighed in average but sometimes i do get one of the heavy rolls i placed back in as a nice surprise. I dont find it very fun if i weigh them all and know my chances of finding silver in slim to none. so that is my reasoning for placing the heavy rolls back in to open them all after they have been well mixed.
