american (phillipines) money --when america ruled the phillipines long ago pre WW2 we got them from spain in the spanish - american war ---(and ruled them from 1899 thru 1946)---its a 20 centavo piece equal to a us dime at the rate of 2 phillipine peso's to 1 us dollar (there was 100 centavos to the peso) at the exchange rate of the day then--- it was 90% silver same as american coins of its time if i remember correctly ---since the war started in Dec. 1941 and the japanese took over and controlled the area from 42 to 44 --- the money wasn't made and when the gi's came back in 44 and 45 coins were made in the us mints- philly, denver and san francisco until the phillipines were granted their independance in 1946 ---kinda neat bit of history you got there and very nice find--- Ivan

Any value to these? I can not imagine there is a whole bunch out there...

the coins a bit worn ---- its a 1941 manila mint coin ----the exchange rate at the time was was 2 peso's 0R 200 centavo's to 1 US dollar (1 peso was 100 centavos--(spanish wording) thus it is equal to a US dime.---its value is mainly due to its silver content and the fact that lots were destroyed in 1942 to keep the japanese from getting them ---lots of boxes full of silver phillipine peso & centavo money from the phillipines treasury (15 million pesos worth or 7.5 million dollars worth) was dumped into the ocean or buried to keep the japanese invaders from getting it---most of the american men that buried or dumped the money died in the death camps run by the japanese. then after the americans regained control there were 1944 and 1945 coins made in the us at the philly, denver and frisco mints --- a good bit of the "dumped" coins were recovered by the U.S Navy until 1946 when the phillipines were granted independance---yours just might be one of them or maybe it was in the pocket of someone who was lucky and got out of the phillipines before the japanese fully took over the islands or was in the hands of a resistance fighter in WW2-- while its cash value is not that great 2 or 3 bucks maybe as a bit of history its priceless.

Thanks for the history lesson Ivan... I had no idea about any of that....Yeah it is a cool coin indeed...I will put this one away with my others...She said she almost spent it...but noticed just in time....It may only be worth a few bucks...But it is now one of my fav coins due to the history of it.
