I was looking through pocket change when I came upon this quarter. It is a florida D. what is different about this quarter is that there is an inner ring inside the strike mark about the size of a nickle and it is perfectly centered in the quarter. Any ideas on how this happened? Mint error? or something, I dunno?
it runs right under U>S>A and right over quarter dollar.
here is a pic.

that happens on quite a few newer coins and some older ones. I believe it is from those bank rolls. After the coins are in the rolls, there is a machine that seals the open end of the roll and it tends to make that ring around the inside of the coin. HH!

no, the ridge can be felt.

we use to call them "shotgun" marks or something like that. Like it was said earlier, the coins were rolled and then a machine closed the rolls ...sometimes with too much force and made the marks on the coins. I used to see them all the time in change. ruins the coins

Neat find!
Wouldn't they consider that to be an error coin?

no wouldnt be a error as the defect didnt occur during the minting process it happened after the fact---but hey could always try to ebay it and see what it brings---LOL

I go thru quite a few rolls of half dollars looking for silver and 1974D DDO, and have seen many with that ring. I dont bother keeping those as the ring is created by the rolling machine.
